Role Overview
The Genus Scientific Data R&D team provides stakeholders across Genus with data pipeline and ingestion capabilities, data storage and modeling expertise, and data access for projects critical to the growth of the business and overarching delivery of prototype solutions to internal and external customers. The Data Engineer will join a growing team using next generation technologies to improve decision making and accelerate marked improvement in both bovine and porcine genetics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Data Engineer is accountable for and will provide technical, development, and support capabilities to ensure the best possible data is available for consumption by our customers.
They are directly accountable for the following:
- Develop, implement, and maintain multiple large-scale data pipelines, provide tool development, and deliver application support for data acquisition, access, and analysis using Agile software development methodologies.
- Enhance data collection procedures to include information that is relevant or required for building analytic systems and/ or models.
- Process, clean, and verify the integrity of data used for analysis by Genus R&D and other Genus businesses.
- Drive data management best practices, enforce sound data governance, and enforce appropriate policies relating to our data assets.
- Interact with scientific teams, users, and Product Management to understand requirements and identify improvement opportunities within the software and or infrastructure.
Requirements
- 4-year degree in STEM or other appropriately related subject area
- 2+ years of experience in software development using Agile methodologies
- 2+ years of experience working with SQL and NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra, and MySQL) data environments
- 2+ years of building scalable, large scientific datasets
- Strong programming skills with proficiencies in Python, SQL, Golang, or similar languages
- 2+ years of experience with modern configuration management principles, deployment pipelines, and version control.
- Experience in cloud native development and deployment environments
- 2+ years of experience in building robust data pipelines.
