Job Summary
The Policy and Analytics Center (PAC) at the A.J. Drexel Autism Institute is seeking a Data Analyst to join our growing team. PAC focuses on research using Medicaid and Medicare claims, national administrative databases and surveys, and primary data collection. An emphasis for this position is on the use of claims data and advanced skills in programming (flexibility in preferred coding software/program/language) and the use of statistical methodology. We often work in collaborative teams across projects and the ability to multi-task to meet deadlines and enthusiasm for work with collaborators from varying disciplines is essential. PAC also houses community-based programs where we seek opportunities to use data to inform policy and practice.
The Data Analyst will support data management and analytic needs across PAC projects including federal funding from the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense, the Health Resources and Services Administration, and other non-profit and governmental sources including the Autism Services, Education, Resources and Training (ASERT) Collaborative and the Philadelphia Autism Project.
Remote work is possible and supported, although candidates with some availability to be in our offices at Drexel University occasionally for on-site required analyses are preferred
Essential Functions
- Clean, process, and analyze large administrative databases.
- Utilize a variety of statistical tests to conduct analyses and rapidly learn statistical methods, programming languages, and analytic/visualization tools as required by project needs
- Communicate results to colleagues.
- Ensure data quality control, data cleaning, annotation, and integration.
- Maximally structure datasets to optimize use in future projects.
- Maintain and track all encrypted/protected data sources and manage their use.
- Apply discipline-specific skills and knowledge to solve problems and conduct research.
- Maintain well-organized records related to internal and external communications, project management, and all other aspects of the job.
- Provide data support for manuscripts and contribute to manuscript and other deliverable production, such as writing methods sections as a co-author
- Advise team on technical needs in terms of computer hardware and analytic/visualization software required for job functions.
- Assist in study design and conceptualization.
- Utilize Drexel high-performance cluster (HPC) computing resources to perform analyses on large datasets (requires comfort with UNIX and bash/command line)
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent
- 2-5 years of relevant experience
- Proficiency with data visualization principles, best practices, and software (e.g., Tableau, R, Python) (required)
- Proficiency with SAS or Stata (required), as well as R and/or Python for advanced methods (preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree and interest and corresponding experience with administrative or claims data will be considered
- Familiarity with UNIX environments, bash/command line scripting, and high-performance cluster (HPC) computing (preferred).
- Strong organizational skills.
- Effective written and oral communication abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in statistics, computer science, public health, or other related field
