Over the last several years Grainger’s technology organization has continued to use machine learning capabilities to provide more, and enhanced, product offerings to our customers. As we continue to deploy more machine learning models, experiments with new technologies, and pushes the envelope technologically it has become important to ensure that ML engineers are enabled. Grainger is looking for a leader to establish ML capabilities to support machine learning model creation, experimentation, deployment, and support within our technology organization. You will create used ML capabilities that allow machine learning engineers to operate autonomously. This role is hybrid and based in our Chicago office. You will report to Sr Director of Information Management.
- Build, and own, a self-service ML Platform that makes it easy for data scientists and machine learning engineers to develop and operate machine learning models at scale to support our Grainger products.
- Lead, a team of Machine Learning Platform engineers to support delivery of machine learning solutions.
- Develop reusable technology solutions to facilitate ML deployment and scalability of ML services required to support high-demand, low latency needs.
- Provide self-service capabilities that promote teams of machine learning engineers to autonomously develop and operate machine learning models.
- Improve adoption of ML engineering tools, standards, and patterns across ML teams within Grainger’s technology group.
- Partner with ML leadership outside of the Grainger Technology Group to use existing ML Platform components while sharing newly implemented components.
- Collaborate with Security Architecture, Cloud Infrastructure, Networking, and Platform Engineering to ensure the technological needs of machine learning engineers are met while aligning with necessary security requirements.
- Allow machine learning engineers to perform rapid prototyping of new technology and working to productionize new technologies expeditiously.
- Partner with peers in Product and Data Engineering to ensure that data and data infrastructure required for machine learning activities are available and accessible.
- Substantial experience promoting large-scale productionalized machine learning models in a high demand, low latency environment.
- Prior experience developing ML models through all phases including data acquisition, exploration, model development, feature deployment, and post-production support.
- Meaningful experience with tools and platforms commonly used for end-to-end machine learning, such as, Databricks, AWS Sagemaker.
- Experience with GPU intensive platforms, such as, Nvidia Triton.
- Experience with TensorRT, DeepSpeed, model quantization, and distributed training on GPU-based platforms.
- Experience building and supporting ML monitoring through applying technologies, such as, Splunk, Sumologic, Grafana, and Superset.
- Understanding of cloud-based infrastructure including, Kubernetes clusters, endpoints, data storage technologies, networking, authorization, authentication, and other security protocols.
- Experience with the entire software development life cycle, including designing distributed systems, software development methodologies, and technologies including source code management, test automation, testing frameworks,
- Prior experience with programming languages, such as, Python and R is valued.
