Lead Data Engineer

We are seeking qualified candidates for a Lead Data Engineer at our Corporate Headquarters in Glen Allen, Virginia. This role will lead the research, design, and implementation of new and/or redesigned end to end Analytics solutions. Through hypothesis testing and generation of insights, the Lead Data Engineer will also conduct gap assessments on current to future capabilities, implement industry leading practices and processes while simplifying and replacing analytics and reporting solutions, designs and practices to advance our business objectives with a sustainable operational model.
Responsibilities of the position include:
- Lead data capture, exploratory analysis and data modeling while incorporating business analytics and statistical methods.
- Working with functional leaders, lead product lifecycle projects to include a focus on simplification and modernization of analytics with automation and operational efficiencies. Anticipate and recommend requirements, new designs/products and components, as well as alternatives to evaluate based on function/customer desires and strategic roadmap.
- Lead the research, analysis, and design of complex end-to-end systems, interfaces, data, and processes that have a high degree of variation.
- Generate actionable insights from varied data sources and synthesize analysis for audiences of different levels, while maintaining data and system compliance to align IT and Hamilton Beach Brands roadmap.
- Create and manage new or enhanced product development roadmaps, project schedules, cost estimates for research and development, cost reduction, alternative/re-design, operational and controls excellence projects.
- Develop new, industry-leading designs, components, specifications for complex products through hand on prototypes and development of cross functional testing protocols and ensuring testing execution.
- Implement new approaches to data analysis, implementing industry leading practices and processes while decommissioning non-value add processes, procedures, designs and practices.
- Through daily monitoring, work with business partners to ensure business accountability and adherence to procedural compliance, and the strengthening of resulting data accuracy up and downstream.
- Develop technical product and process documentation as well as education and training materials for use with business and technical stakeholders and partners as well as for Cybersecurity NIST requirements and ITGC.
- Participate in peer code reviews through change management and problem management – congruent with ITIL practices.
Requirements of the position include:
- BS Degree in IT, IS, computer science, computer engineering or related technology field. A Master’s degree is desired.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working in IT function
- 5 years’ experience with SQL
- 3 years’ experience with Python
- 3 years’ experience PowerBI
- Minimum 5 years’ integration/interface experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in product lifecycle management
- Strong communication skills with the ability to understand business requirements and translate them into sustainable designs for solutions
- Experience and ability to work in a fast-paced environment and independently with business functions to achieve product and project results
- Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and methodologies with a desire to coach and assist team members
The suitable candidate will have demonstrated technical skills, product management and strong communication skills with the ability to understand business needs and translate them into designs for solutions suitable for delivery, meeting critical deadlines. Experience in product lifecycle maturation, automation and continuous improvement in solutions and processes while working with functional and technical team members to achieve strategic objectives together is a critical success factor in this role.
