Position Description
As a Principal QA/DevOps Engineer in HBS IT you will collaborate with cross-functional teams across all phases of software projects including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance. In partnership with CI/CD initiatives you will design and implement automated test infrastructure in a sustainable, supported, cost-effective and reliable approach across different technologies. You will provide hands-on leadership, using your expertise to model and drive automation test strategy.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with application teams to define and build tooling and automation frameworks that simplify and support comprehensive test coverage in the software development lifecycle, encourage best practices, and ensure high quality releases
- Contribute to creation and maturing of software development best practices and new technologies
- Proactively identify opportunities to better leverage validation tools, improve process, or enhance practices to be more efficient and effective
- Develop a deep understanding of technologies within the HBS portfolio and communicate complex technical issues to audiences of mixed experience
- Identify and prioritize opportunities for automation and test-driven design
- Design, build, and debug automation frameworks for integration in CI/CD pipeline
- Integrate cloud-based resources and networks with local and distributed infrastructure
- Enforce, audit, and streamline software test and delivery processes
- Gather and report on relevant and actionable metrics
- Serve as a trusted advisor to colleagues, providing strong technical guidance that balances adherence to standards with flexibility
- Provide guidance and mentorship to engineers, helping to move the team forward to better, more up-to-date technologies
- Assume additional responsibilities as assigned
Basic Qualifications
- Minimum of 7 years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
- It is preferred that at least five of the seven years’ required experience listed above includes working as an Automation Engineer or DevOps Engineer in supporting enterprise systems in a complex computing environment
- Experience with source control / configuration management tools (e.g. Git) is preferred
- Experience developing software using IDE is preferred
- Working knowledge of key cloud services, such as AWS, Azure and/or GCP services is preferred
- Experience designing and developing automation test frameworks and tools in Java, JavaScript, C++, or equivalent experience is preferred
- Experience with standard QA tools and practices, such as functional API testing, integration testing, and UI functionality and usability testing, with a passion for automation is preferred
- Experience testing in a service-oriented architecture is preferred
- In-depth debugging skills for finding root cause of incident and/or defects is preferred
- Strong grasp of networking, security, and system administration concepts is preferred
- Demonstrated team performance skills, service mindset approach, and the ability to act as a trusted advisor is preferred
Working Conditions
- Additional support outside of regularly scheduled hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holiday breaks, may occasionally be required
