POSITION SUMMARY
The Data Engineer I is a contributing technical member of an engineering team. The position will work to satisfy key business initiatives by delivering data and analytics solutions that scale efficiently while improving performance and minimizing costs. This is an entry level engineering role that works under the direction of leadership and senior engineers. The Data Engineer I must be able to quickly grasp new concepts and apply them to their work. The Data Engineer I will begin to contribute to strategies, standards, new capabilities, and design to enable faster and easier data access, automated workflows, and improved time to solution for data and analytics initiatives. The position will collaborate with senior engineers to integrate data systems, analytics, and data science tools with business processes. The Data Engineer I will have an understanding of basic data engineering concepts gained through formal education or on-the-job training.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Develops data pipelines using varying technologies (ETL, API, SQL, cloud) in accordance with defined standards and procedures.
2. Contributes to the development of end-to-end enterprise data and analytic solutions.
3. Works with internal and external customers to resolve incidents and fulfill standard requests.
4. Diagnose and resolve internal system issues.
5. Builds to system and security standards for the organization, ensuring compliance with state and regulatory rules with regards to PHI and PII.
6. Contributes to automation of testing and deployment.
7. Reviews and develops specifications and requirements for complex data integration and delivery products with users, vendors, and other engineers.
8. Develops working familiarity with a variety of business data domains, source systems, and business processes to enable delivery of solutions applicable across the businessโ clinical and business functions.
Qualification:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelorโs Degree in Computer Science or equivalent STEM field
Licensure: None Required
Certification: None Required
Work Experience: No formal work experience required
Work Experience in Lieu of Education:
- Associates degree plus two years of applicable technical experience
- Or, in lieu of no degree, four years of applicable technical experience
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Basic understanding of current developments and trends in Information Technology in one or more of the following domains:
- Data Warehousing
- ETL/ELT
- Data integration
- Data modeling / Database design
- Ability to work in SQL, Oracle and DB2 o Must be able to apply IT concepts to their daily work

Certification: At least one technical certification required
Work Experience:
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Cloud services, especially Azure
- Hadoop/Mongo DB experience
- Knowledge of MUMPS
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Sedentary
- Majority of time involves sitting or standing; occasional walking, bending, stooping
- Long periods of computer time or at workstation
- Light work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds with or without assistance.
- May be exposed to inside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting and/or low to moderate noise
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks
- Workspace may vary from open to confined, on site or remote
- May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle
