Position Summary
The Internship Program at HealthStream will enable you to grow personally and professionally by providing you with real-world experience in one of the top healthcare IT companies in the United States. In HealthStream’s Internship Program, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects in a stimulating, collaborative environment. This experience, in partnership with your coursework, will set you up on a road for career success.
The Data Science Intern will bring technical expertise to assist product management with the analysis and evaluation of data to be used on customer facing product dashboards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities – (The below listed duties are not all inclusive. This position must also perform other duties as assigned.
- Works with multiple HealthStream departments as necessary to identify data sources and requirements
- Communicates any issues/concerns regarding existing processes sourcing or updating key data points
- Thinks creatively to help develop a data strategy and solve organizational, technical, and operational challenges
- Regularly reports the status of identified strategic data goals
- Supports questions, report development, and bug evaluations from internal users, including on-the-spot troubleshooting as necessary
- Brings technical expertise and will become the subject matter expert for the entire contract management lifecycle and product activity dataset.
What You Will Need To Be Successful
Education, Experience, and Knowledge Required: (Specialized, technical, or practical knowledge, skills, experience, or abilities that are needed to perform the job. Include degrees, certificates, licenses, or other bona fide job qualifications.)
- All intern candidates MUST be currently enrolled students in an accredited college or university
- Pursuing a graduate degree in Statistics, Data Science, or Applied Mathematics
- Experience building predictive models
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills including instructional, facilitation, and presentation needed
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, highly self-motivated.
- Previous experience working with historical health insurance claims data is preferred
- Customer-centric mindset, strong interpersonal skills, and patience
- Ability to comfortably interface with technical personnel
- Multi-task oriented; works with a sense of urgency and a desire for excellence in performance
- High degree of integrity, professionalism, and the ability to establish a high level of credibility.
- Transcripts will be requested prior to initial interview (unofficial transcripts will suffice).
Skills And Abilities Required
- Test question analysis and statistical reliability calculations for assessments
- Strong, well-developed problem-solving skills and the ability to learn new technical concepts quickly
- Excellent time-management, organization, prioritization, attention to detail, and documentation skills
- 1-2 years’ experience with data tools (e.g., Excel, PowerBI, Tableau, SQL)
- 1-2 years’ experience with statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS).
- Strong, well-developed problem-solving skills and the ability to learn new technical concepts quickly.
- Excellent time-management, organization, prioritization, attention to detail, and documentation skills
- Interns are expected to work 15-30 hours a week for the January-April internship period. Internship will cover dates starting in January and ending in late April/Early-May, with some flexibility on dates given varying school schedules.

Compensation
This is a paid internship; pay starts at $15/hr for the Internship Program.
