The Manager of Data Science is responsible for helping the organization to provide valuable direction and insight for management to make informed decisions leveraging on data, through a team of data scientists and engineers. Works closely with business leaders to fully understand opportunities and gaps for data science solutions to extract value and produce innovative solutions.

Working with different parts of the organization, analyzes and assesses effectiveness of different initiatives and interventions. Also evaluates in-house/vendor-built data-science/statistical models and provides an unbiased overview of observed performance and outcomes. Documents findings and presents results to the leadership.

Partners with the IT/EDW to design and develop data strategies as well as data science tools and pipelines enabling the organization to carry out such projects. Utilizes a variety of data sources, both internal and external, big and small, structured and unstructured formats to build analytic models using machine-learning and statistical techniques. Also collaborates with IT to develop strategies to educate and enable community analytics to better digest and utilize data science tools.

Provides direction, mentorship and guidance to the Data Science Team. Ensures their professional and technical development and fosters continuous improvement of the team’s code, architecture, and agile processes.

The Manager of Data Science should understand business processes and develop cutting edge solutions to business problems. Should also be skilled at extracting, transforming, and analyzing data using a variety of common analytical tools and statistical techniques. Should be able to present findings in a compelling manner to both a business and non-technical audience.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages a team of data scientists and engineers.

Collaborates with IT to develop data and data science toolset strategies.

Owns and manages data science platforms and budget.

Designs an unbiased and transparent framework for evaluating data-science models. Utilizes it to evaluate in-house or vendor-offered models including Epic models.

Reviews and assesses the performance and effectiveness of business initiatives and interventions on leadership request.

Leverages appropriate data science techniques to drive the creation of insights from data. Builds cutting-edge and innovative data science and statistical models as necessary.

Provides education to the business related to data science tools and applications.

Performs analysis and experiments for a multi-department audience, interprets and communicates findings and insights.

Stays current on data science and analytics tools, techniques, and practices.

Works on an Agile (Scrum) team.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Operations Research, Public Health, Epidemiology or another related field required.

A doctorate (PhD) degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Operations Research, Public Health, and Epidemiology or another related field preferred.

One plus (1+) year experience working with cloud Big Data Stack to orchestrate data gathering, cleansing, preparation and modelling preferred.

Eight plus (8+) years of professional work experience.

Two plus (2+) years of experience in managing a team of highly skilled staff.

Five plus (5+) years of experience involving quantitative data analyses for problem solving in US Healthcare industry.

Two plus (2+) years of experience with predictive, forecasting, and optimization problem solving using data analytics tools like Python, R or SAS.

Advanced SQL skills working with RDBMSs such as Oracle, SQL Server, etc.

Experience working with data visualization tools or Data Visualization Designers in Tableau or Power BI. Also, experience with data visualization for analytic models in Rshiny, GGPlot, Qlik, Alteryx, Flask, D3, etc. used to tell the data story to business users to foster adoption of analytic outputs created preferred.

Exceptionally skilled in machine learning, data analytics, pattern recognition and predictive modeling.

Strong communication and presentation skills. Effective communication and story-telling skills.

Must have good problem-solving skills in a complex environment and working with highly skilled staff.

Energy and enthusiasm. Passion for learning and contributing to development.
