Position Summary:
The Intern, Data Science is responsible for the application of advanced analytics to claims datasets and the synthesis of insights. This role will leverage cutting edge data science technologies and methods to help business leaders across the company make appropriate data-driven decisions. The intern will design, develop, and implement machine learning algorithms, and will serve as an internal advocate for the power of data science. The role will collaborate with other stakeholders across the business to drive growth for our brands.
Responsibilities:
- Support the implementation of advanced analytics across the organization, including applications of machine learning, statistical insights generation and, medical research support
- Learn the process of building and fine-tuning algorithms that scale up from proof-of-concept to production-grade initiatives
- Enhance the automation of machine learning deployment across Horizon’s portfolio of medicines
- Create insightful visualizations that help non-technical audiences to understand complex datasets and outputs
- Identify and shape business challenges and opportunities into analytical, data-driven solutions, ranging from scoping and evaluating data opportunities to developing data-driven insights, data models and recommendations to fuel strategic growth
- Participate in ad hoc analytics and automation projects
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- Must be a current graduate student working towards a Master’s degree in a quantitative field (Data Science, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Operations Research, Applied Math, Statistics or related)
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Prior experience with predictive modeling required
- Proven experience with Python required; experience with distributed computing technologies for machine learning, such as Apache Spark and Linux, is a plus
- Experience in biotech / pharmaceuticals preferred but not required
- Knowledge and familiarity with state-of-the-art machine learn algorithms, such as deep learning and its use in time series applications with highly dimensional data
- Ability to translate analysis into insights – able to tell compelling stories with data
