Job Location: Spring, TX

We are looking for a talented Architect in the Big Data world to join an exciting development team at HP!

In this role, you’ll provide the technical leadership and advanced subject matter knowledge needed to solve complex business issues, you will help us advance our capability by demonstrating your passion for big data, data science, software best practices and innovative solutions.

This opportunity will rely on your deep architecture subject matter knowledge including technologies, theories and techniques. You will have the opportunity to collaboratively contribute to the development of innovative principles and ideas.

You will successfully operate in the most complex disciplines, disciplines in which the company must shine in order to be successful. We will look to you to lead and support team of data scientists and big data developers that affect the organization’s long-term goals and objectives, where you will be able to provide highly-innovative solutions. You will collaboratively participate in cross-division, multi-function teams. Provides mentoring and guidance to less experienced employees. Routinely exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques and criteria for achieving objectives. Develops strategy and sets functional policy and direction.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Enjoys an R&D environment creating new features and new products.

  • Must be collaborative and must thrive in a team environment.

  • Needs to have a passion to develop, willingness to learn, try new things, and staying current with technology.


Critical skills:

  • Provides architectural vision and leads other senior level engineers to the optimal engineering solution

  • Excellent understanding of cloud infrastructure and Experience with Apache Spark, HDFS, AWS

  • Strong Scala, Python and spark programming experience is a must

  • Extensive experience using programming languages to solve big data challenges.

  • In depth knowledge of SQL and relational databases

  • Has exposure to other types of databases such as NoSQL

  • Understands enough about metadata and data governance

  • Fluent in structured and unstructured data, its management, and modern data transformation methodologies.

  • Experience in designing API

  • Knows general tools such as Visual Studio, Git & GitHub

  • Familiar with a variety of software patterns and principles

  • Understanding of client-server architecture

  • Has a good understanding of software engineering principles

  • Experience designing software applications running on multiple platform types.

  • Understanding of software applications testing methodology, including writing and execution of test plans, debugging, and testing scripts and tools.

  • Understanding of unit test development and mock objects

  • Write code proficiently

  • Can deploy infrastructure on their own

  • Can setup CI/CD on their own

  • Experience in deploying, and evaluating machine learning applications

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at management levels.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English.

  • Having knowledge in building machine learning applications is a plus.


Responsibilities:

  • Develops and cultivates organization-wide architectures and methodologies for software applications design and development across multiple platforms and organizations within the Global Business Unit.

  • Identifies and evaluates exciting new technologies, innovations, and outsourced development partner relationships for alignment with technology roadmap and business value; collaboratively creates plans for integration and update into architecture.

  • Reviews and evaluates designs and project activities for compliance with development guidelines and standards; provides tangible feedback to improve product quality and mitigate failure risk.

  • Leverages recognized domain expertise, business acumen, and experience to collaboratively influence decisions of executive business leadership, outsourced development partners, and industry standards groups.

  • Provides guidance and mentoring to less- experienced staff members to set an example of applications design and development innovation and excellence.


Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent.

  • Typically 10+ years experience.
