Job Detail:

This a grant-funded position not to exceed 2 years.

Job Summary: Responsible for identifying requirements, creating complex SQL, DAX, or high-level programming language scripts, analyzing workflow, extracting data, validation, and testing; working closely with the Data Team to ensure reports and data extractions meet the needs and expectations of the end-users.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Write queries, views, or stored procedures to extract data.
  • Develop and maintain a variety of report types, including but not limited to tabular, drill down, matrix, and charts.
  • Support the generation of standard reports as well as ad hoc queries.
  • Prioritize and implement new report requests and report changes.
  • Conduct the necessary research to develop workarounds for reporting service limitations and propose the appropriate solutions.
  • Work with different data sources and combine data from different sources to generate a single report.
  • Gain an in-depth understanding of all data sources and determine data structures that benefit the entire reporting environment.
  • Create and automate or increase the efficiency of existing reports through data consolidation and data analysis.
  • Complete thorough testing of all reports prior to handoff to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Clearly document all reports with Report Name, use, owner, purpose, specifications, database, data fields, and others.
  • Monitor the performance of reports and take the corrective action necessary to optimize or improve the performance of the reports when necessary.
  • Work across all departments and collect information regarding potential report enhancements and functionality needs.
  • Assist in storage planning and database performance.
  • Assist department management with various projects.
  • Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization’s service to its guests by offering suggestions and participating as an active member of a work team.
  • Always represent HRA in a professional and courteous manner. Provide quality service to the public, volunteers, and employees recognizing their individual contributions to the success of the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:
Knowledge of:

  • Operational principles and procedures of standard word processing, database, spreadsheet, and related business applications software including, but not limited to:
  • Relational Database Management Systems and related reporting services (e.g., PetPoint Report Builder).
  • Programming languages commonly used in statistical analysis (e.g., R or Python).
  • Microsoft Suite, including expertise in Excel and VBA, and Google applications.
  • Data visualization software (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Other basic professional computer-related skills.
  • Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals, at all levels of responsibility, in person and over the telephone.
  • Communicating effectively in oral and written forms.

Skill in:

  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Maintaining accurate records of work performed.
  • Preparing clear and concise reports, instructions, and other written materials.
  • Working without close supervision in standard work situations.
  • Organizing own work, setting priorities, and meeting deadlines.
  • Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities.
  • Dealing effectively with guests that may be upset or confrontational.
  • Passion for the HRA mission, and for caring for all animals regardless of age, breed, temperament, or species, and supporting and educating members of the public, free of judgment or bias.

  • Ability to be comfortable working with cats, dogs, small animals, reptiles, fish, and wildlife.
  • Availability and willingness to work weekends and/or holidays; and attend mandatory training and meetings as the employer determines are necessary or desirable to meet its organizational needs.
  • Due to the nature of shelter work, may be exposed to deceased, fractious, or aggressive animals; common allergens; hostile or irate persons; zoonotic or other diseases; unpleasant noises, odors, or sights; and extreme temperatures.

Education and Experience:

  • Two years of experience with technical data analysis including database management, coding reports, and analyzing data and trends

HRA requires all staff to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless a medical or religious exemption applies. New employees must submit proof of full vaccination, or request for a medical or religious exemption, before their first day of work in HRA’s workplace. Employees receiving a medical or religious exemption will be required to submit a weekly, time-stamped, negative COVID test to HR.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 – $65,000.00 per year
