We are looking for an experienced, highly skilled manager to lead our Data Engineering & Data Science team. You and your team of data engineers and data scientists will own the design, implementation, and successful delivery of large-scale, complex data solutions powering all IMDb business understanding and insights. You will then leverage those data solutions to build predictive models, optimization algorithms, and customer behavioral segments, which feed directly into our growing set of personalization efforts, used by millions of customers daily. You will both own IMDb’s core business analytics infrastructure and the ability to directly leverage those systems to make our customers lives better through investments in machine learning, A/B testing, customer segmentation, and distributed big data technologies. You will work collaboratively with our business intelligence, software development, and product teams to define the right system architecture to bring data and science to the forefront of all business understanding.
The ideal candidate has a strong data engineering background with a propensity towards data science, partners effectively with others, earns trust through performance, and is passionate about people management, mentorship, and career development. Your leadership is both tactical and strategic in how you lead the team to invent, evolve, and/or deprecate data solutions. You have an eye for where to simplify, optimize, or extend solutions for the best outcomes. You mitigate long-term risks and are effective in finding a path forward in difficult situations.
- Master’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, statistics, or a related technical discipline
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in writing complex, highly-optimized SQL queries across large data sets
- Hands on experience using AWS big data technologies (Redshift/Spectrum, Athena, Glue, S3, EMR, Spark, Kinesis, SageMaker, Airflow)
- Knowledge and practical experience in several of the following areas: machine learning, recommendation systems, deep learning, natural language processing (NLP), statistics, and information retrieval
- Ability to think critically, question assumptions, and devise solutions to challenging technical problems
- Proven success in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe data modeling decisions and data engineering/science strategy
- Passionate about the entertainment industry
