Position Overview
The Data Modeler will have boundless energy and passion for engineering data used to solve dynamic problems. As part of digital transformation, we’re seeking entrepreneurial individuals to help drive data productization from concept to deployment. You will dig into our mammoth scale of data to help unleash the power of science by imagining, developing, and maintaining data pipelines that our data analysts, eCommerce Analysts, Merchandisers and business stakeholders can rely on. You will be responsible for contributing to an orchestration layer of complex data transformations, refining raw data from source into targeted, valuable data assets for consumption in a governed way. You will partner with data scientists, analysts, other business stakeholders to solve complex and exciting challenges so that we can build out capabilities that evolve our business model. We empower our business to leverage data to fuel growth, driving revenue in our core and building new business model opportunities.
What you’ll do at Insight
- Work with the data, processes, and digital teammates responsible for making key decisions with an opportunity to understand and shape the data that powers it all.
- Build data models to provide business critical data spanning sales, customer, and product.
- Design, build, develop and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models along with corresponding metadata to support digital transformation strategies according to company standards.
- Gather SQL and NoSQL query requirements, analyze source data, and learn Insight’s digital processes.
- Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases.
- Design data models and data loads that are scalable, supportable and ready for future growth optimized for relational, dimensional databases.
- Create logical and physical data models using best practices to ensure high data quality and support application, batch, and interactive use cases.
- Validate data by reviewing queries, reports, and performance indicators to locate and correct problems.
- Develop best practices for standard naming conventions and coding practices to ensure data model consistency.
- Recommend opportunities for reuse of data models in new environments.
- Perform reverse engineering of physical data models from databases and SQL scripts.
- Evaluate data models and physical databases for variances and discrepancies.
- Analyze data-related system integration challenges and propose appropriate solutions.
What you’ll need to join Insight
- Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, computer science or a related field
- 1-3 years of experience implementing logical and physical design database designs
- Expert knowledge of data modeling tools
- Be naturally curious
- Excellent critical thinking skills
- Experience with business intelligence tools e.g. SQL Server Reporting services, Azure, & Power BI
- Excellent SQL skills including stored procedures, triggers, and high availability design
- Ability and strong desire to solve complex data issues in a collaborative fashion
- Strong knowledge of normalized and dimensional data models
- Expert in data analysis, data profiling and all types of data problem solving
- Excellent communication skills with ability to structure logical clear messages in keeping with listener’s experience, background, and expectations.
