Data Scientist Consultant – IDB Invest

Context of this search:

We are searching for a highly skilled team member to support DSP/SPK’s goals in leading and designing data science solutions to generate insights based on IDB Invest experience in doing business.

The Team:

The Strategic Planning and Knowledge Division provides the backbone to articulate and deploy strategic priorities across the Group. At its core, the function creates value for the organization through well-defined objectives: (i) providing leadership in the development of corporate, institutional, and country strategy, including assessment of frontier issues; (ii) directly adding value to individual business units by working with them to develop and implement the strategic direction provided by IDB Invest core strategic documents (e.g., business plan, country strategies); (iii) creating value by coordinating different parts of the organization: realizing synergies between business units, encouraging the sharing of best practices or providing centralized shared services (e.g., knowledge management); (iv) adopting the role of corporate navigator; identifying interdependencies and enabling strategic decision-making; (v) leading IDB Invest’s efforts to become a knowledge driven institution with a focus on internal knowledge management; (vi) coordinating the identification, mapping, generation, recording, retention and dissemination of knowledge across the organization; (vii) articulating and generating actionable country-focused knowledge.

The Data Scientist Consultant will play a critical entrepreneurial role and will be responsible for developing advanced analytics and deep insights from IDB Invest operations. You will work closely with AKI division, process owners, and business stakeholders to deliver impactful data solutions. You will have the opportunity to do your best work every day and deliver innovation by tapping into structured and non-structured data, leveraging cloud technologies, and being supported by a robust analytics and IT team.

What you’ll do:

  • Recommend and pursue data solutions to discover insights from our operational experience and enhance decision making. This can range from dashboards creation to machine learning models.
  • Analyze information from a diverse set of structured and unstructured data to derive meaningful insights and communicate findings using visualization and other means.
  • Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders across the organization to identify what are the strategic and knowledge questions that can be addressed by building impactful data solutions.
  • Support the design and implementation of knowledge projects through the end-to-end data lifecycle exploratory analysis, hypothesis testing, modeling, rapid prototyping, business validation/testing, and operational deployment.
  • Contribute to strengthening knowledge management solutions, including search tools and lessons learned initiatives.
  • Apply storytelling skills to translate data insights into recommendations and communicate with stakeholders to promote data-driven decision making.
  • Create and develop technical and non-technical documentation throughout the whole process of design and implementation.
  • Enhance data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytics solutions, including third party sources of information when needed.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships inside and outside the organization with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis and present results in a clear manner.

What you’ll need:

  • Citizenship: If you are not a citizen of United States of America we may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
  • Education: Master’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Design Engineering, Management Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics or related field.
  • Experience: At least 3+ years of relevant professional experience required. Additional years of relevant experience highly desirable. Experience working in an International Financial Institution or similar organization desired.

Core and technical competencies:

  • Knowledge on best practices for information and data structures, repositories, and pipelines.
  • Ability to build information and data pipelines and collection, being able to extract information and create structured or non-structured data repositories.
  • Experience with relevant technologies, preferably in cloud environments, such as Azure.
  • Aptitude for learning and applying models/techniques related to Data Engineering and Data Science.
  • Experience with common data science notebooks.
  • Proficiency in using code languages such as SQL, R, and Python.
  • Good applied statistics skills.
  • Experience in relevant field – i.e. Text analysis, sentiment analysis, network analysis, and data visualization. Ability to parse through large amounts of information with data munging techniques to create simplified and clear products for decision-making.
  • Demonstrated understanding of financial concepts, and application of data science in financial domain.
