For the Wholesale Credit Rating Group of Quantitative Research, we are looking for a candidate to join our team in Jersey City, NJ. Internal client rating is a key risk parameter used for many different purposes such as assessing the credit quality of the wholesale portfolio, pricing decisions, Risk Weighted Assets and accounting reserve calculations, and Regulatory stress testing. Assigning ratings to clients is a multistep process wherein a credit officer relies on various metrics and qualitative information. The Wholesale Credit Rating Group is responsible for monitoring the current internal rating framework and developing statistical models for the rating process that can inform and streamline the credit officers’ work, thereby improving the consistency and accuracy of rating assignments in the future.

Your Impact

You will contribute to the firm’s risk management, financial risk controls, and the internal methodology of assessing the credit quality of clients. Specifically, you will have the chance to:

  • Develop predictive and classifying models for the credit events (e.g. defaults) of clients and their financial obligations;
  • Study large sets of data by using and designing techniques ranging from natural language processing to dynamic programming;
  • Design efficient numerical algorithms and implement high performance computing solutions;
  • Use a wide range of modern statistical techniques pertaining to classifying problems, time series forecasting, clustering and dimensionality reduction methods;
  • Assess the appropriateness of quantitative models and their limitations, identifying and monitoring the associated model risk;
  • Prepare presentable material to key stakeholders (e.g. business) and produce high quality documentation for internal review and the regulators.

Requirements:

  • Advanced degree (PhD, MS or equivalent) in a quantitative field: Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Operations Research, or Engineering;
  • Solid theoretical and practical knowledge of probability, statistical methods (e.g. logistic regression), time series analysis;
  • Data mining background and experience (e.g. clustering, decision trees);
  • Proficiency in Python/pandas or R;
  • Verifiable experience in writing technical documents.

Desirable skills:

  • Experience in dealing with sizable datasets (parallel processing, code optimization);
  • Familiarity with tools and methods of exploratory data analysis and visualization (sklearn, Jupyter);
  • Knowledge of Fixed Income markets, in particular credit products and models;
  • Familiarity with regulatory capital frameworks (Basel III, CCAR);
  • Experience in technical writing demonstrated by academic publications or industry experience.
