This Role:
As part of the AWM Client Service Operational Analytics team, this role will be responsible for creating; implementing and running an operating model for creating; evolving and managing the Operational Analytics data warehouse – including SDLC; ETL best practices; data dictionary & governance. This role will also play a key part in uplifting and automating the governance of the current self-service analytics platforms (Alteryx and Tableau) to ensure compliance with firm standards, and to manage the risk to the firm – while still ensuring velocity in the delivery of analytical insights.
Responsibilities:
- Follow an operating model for the Operational Analytics team; which allows for the safe and effective growth of the Data Warehouse for this team – this includes process and governance for new data assets (SDLC; data versioning; data inventories; managing and governing PI; etc)
- Liaise with control, risk and governance partners to ensure that this operating model meets firm-wide standard
- Implement and run this operating model within the Operational Analytics Enablement team – with the goal of transforming the organization away from dependance on Excel towards engineered data in data warehouse.
- Manage the governance of data assets – ensuring that changes to the production DW are appropriate and managed; and that all new data assets (tables; views; etc) are appropriate; adequately documented (including a Kimball Information Bus; and a Data Inventory); and meet our governance standards
- Assist the Operational analytics teams in a consultancy capacity, in designing data structures in line with Kimball DW principles; in tuning data queries; and in building reusable assets which can be shared across teams.
- Eliminate redundant / overlapping datasets in favour of reusable data sets
- As part of the Enablement team – assist with the support and management of our Alteryx & Tableau infrastructure & governance – including automation & streamlining of governance & control processes
- Build a partnership with technology to accelerate the delivery of analytical outcomes while reducing the governance load on analytical users, and managing firm risk
- Apply critical thinking skills and perform advanced analytics with the goal of solving complex and multi-faceted business problems utilizing the firm’s elected analytics and visualization platforms such as Alteryx ; Tableau & Qlik.
- Work within this group to drive the broad adoption of self-service reporting and embedded data analysis using tools like Qlik; Alteryx and Tableau
- Effectively communicate with project team members and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle (status updates, gaps/risks, roadblocks, testing outcomes, etc.)
Education:
Graduate or post graduate in any discipline
Preferred candidate with Alteryx Core certification or Tableau Desktop certification
Experience and Technical Skills:
- Demonstrated experience in SQL data management – preferably Microsoft SQL Server DBA
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement ETL and data management practices – including but not limited to Kimball methods; star schema design; SCD & bitemporal data; ETL logging & administration; and data & DDL versioning as part of a broader SDLC.
- Knowledge & experience of Data Warehousing / Data Lake / Business Intelligence strategies and architecture
- Experience in data design & query tuning – preferably in MS SQL Server
- 1+ years’ Business Intelligence / Analyst / Data Engineering experience in a large, matrix structured, mission-critical (preferably financial services) environment
- Proven ability to strategically manage complex, highly-visible analytical projects from concept through implementation
- Proven experience leveraging data automation / ETL applications and environments (e.g. Xceptor, Alteryx; SSIS; etc)
- Strong SQL knowledge – demonstrated through active usage of SQL to query and engineer data
- Detailed knowledge and track record of delivery in either Qlik; Tableau; or both
- Ability to build relationships and leverage subject matter expertise to driving conversations and/or influence decisions/direction with Business and Technology areas
- Get-it-done mindset with a strong bias towards action.
- Ability to translate ambiguous business problems into a conceptual analytical and technical architecture
- Proficient in conducting advanced statistical analyses, working with large data sets. Has demonstrated ability to apply statistical methodologies to identify value add to the business
