Job Location: Cambridge, MA
KBR, in support of the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center, has an immediate requirement for a Mid- to Senior MS SQL Server Database Engineer. The qualified candidate will be a key contributor on a team developing applications for the Volpe Center and/or Volpe’s sponsor agencies. As part of a small 4-to-5-person team using Agile methods, the position affords an opportunity to contribute at all phases of functionality development, testing, deployment, and operations.
The position will include the design of databases and database objects, design and development of reports, reconciliation of data with external sources, and user support such as custom queries and reports. We are looking for candidates with experience working with SSRS, SSIS and/or reporting tools like Tableau and PowerBI. Experience in Government financial systems including external sources such as Delphi would be a plus. Candidate must be able to obtain public trust clearance and have resided in the US for 3 of the last 5 years.
- Participates in client/project meeting(s) for project definition, needs assessment and design review.
- Evaluates the needs and requirements of the users and provides technical expertise in the development of technical, structural, and organizational specifications. Determines appropriateness of data for storage and optimum storage Organization.
- Designs, develops, and integrates highly complex database systems for internal and external users/clients.
- Creates documents and implements standards and/or complex modeling to monitor and enhance the capacity and performance of the database. Codes complex programs and derives logical processes on technical platforms.
- Designs user interfaces and business application prototypes.
- Performs complex analyses and reviews applications being released into production. Develops and oversees the implementation of test application code in client server environments to ensure that software conforms to build management practices.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience of working with relational databases; 5+ years with Microsoft SQL Server 2012/2014/2016/2019
- 5+ years of experience of working with SQL; 5+ years of T-SQL developing Stored Procedures, Views, Triggers, UDF (User Defined Functions), constraints, etc.
- Experience of database optimization using profilers, query analyzers and query plans
- Experience working with business intelligence tools like Tableau, SSRS or WebFocus
- Experience of working in a .NET environment using Visual Studio and Team Foundation Server (TFS)/Git
- Experience of ETL and data warehousing; good understanding of OLAP, OLTP, cubed data and (de)normalization would be a plus.
- Experience working with integrated development tools like SQL Server Management Studio
- Experience working with data integration and transformation tools like SSIS
- 5 or more years of database engineering, design, development experience
- Experience working with MDX and SSAS would be nice to have
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, business administration, software engineering or related field preferred
- Microsoft Certifications like ‘MCSA: SQL Server Database Development’ would be a nice to have
