Job Overview

Komatsu is a Global leader in the Heavy Equipment industry and Komatsu America has a great internship opportunity available for a Business student in Junior or Senior standing. This intern will be immersed in a professional environment where the candidate can integrate to the Komatsu culture and make important contributions during a 12-week internship. Some business travel may occur, but most weeks will be spent in our Chicago O’Hare office a minimum of four days a week. The ideal candidate will be professional, creative, and innovative. This internship is intended to identify future high potential Komatsu employees. Must be able to start no later than June 5, 2023.

Key Job Responsibilities

Learning: Master business models as demonstrated by completing and presenting a professional proposal for improvement.

Complete a Rotation to include gaining exposure to the following functions but not limited to:

Data Analysis:

  • Support analytical work of Strategy and Innovation team members by providing required data from KAC systems and databases, structuring data into analysis tools and packaging information for explanation (PowerPoint, etc.) Perform quantitative analysis of specific issues or problem areas.

Process improvement:

  • Support process improvement projects targeted at specific areas of the business. Work in conjunction with operation management to define, diagnose, redesign, and implement process changes. (Kaizen methodology).

Executive Meetings:

  • Participate and observe key management meetings, including weekly standing meeting, Monthly Division Operation meetings

Reporting:

  • Support monthly, quarterly report function for senior KAC and Komatsu Ltd. management and periodic presentations for KAC executive staff.
  • Participate in special projects and on demand market research.

Qualifications/Requirements

Education:

Must be at least in Junior standing at an accredited college/university. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0+ and be able to apply their academic background to real business world experiences.

Experience:

Prior experience with work study programs, school or volunteer leadership roles, participated on teams or in clubs, professional organizations, etc. preferred.

Soft Skills:

High level written and verbal communications skills. Flexibility and maturity to interact effectively with executives, associates at all levels, and across cultures. Ability to multi-task, manage multiple deadlines and work and thrive in a fast-paced environment, ability to handle pressure. Strong motivation to make contributions to Komatsu and strong motivation to drive results. This intern should have an interest in capital goods / heavy equipment in the construction and mining industry.

PC Skills:

High proficiency in Microsoft Office specifically Excel, Power Point and other reporting tools. SQL, “R”, and Visualization tools proficiency desirable. Must demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Travel:

This travel may require some travel.
