In a time of unprecedented expansion, we are seeking a Director of Data Engineering to join our Infrastructure team. In this role, you will lead a team of data engineers, collaborating closely with senior leaders, data architects and stakeholders to design and build real-time data pipelines; publish data products; influence product direction; and communicate the vision, methods and techniques needed to achieve common business goals. Reporting to the VP of Infrastructure, you will work with key stakeholders to choose metrics and key performance indicators that measure the success of each Lakeshore department. The position requires taking a leading role in the creation of the company’s data systems as well as the processes needed to track such metrics. The ideal candidate is able to guide a team to not only maintain current systems but also to use data science and machine learning to proactively improve Lakeshore’s decision-making capabilities. This is a hybrid on-site/work-from-home role, with the expectation that the Director will work at our Carson, CA, headquarters as needed.
A day in the office looks like this:
- Designing and facilitating execution of initiatives; bringing engineering solutions to reality with a data mindset
- Making key decisions on data transformation and outcomes
- Collaborating with stakeholders in various technical disciplines, including architects, business intelligence, data engineers, data ops, quality assurance and data governance
- Serving as a technical advisor to management concerning the planning, development, design, procurement, maintenance and implementation of data integration for enterprise-level systems
- Monitoring and evaluating audit and compliance industry trends, as well as third-party tools
- Implementing large-scale data ecosystems including data management and integration of multiple complex systems
- Developing data science and statistical methodologies to integrate into product development and customer analytics
- Working across technology and business teams to develop and execute the vision and roadmap for the data lake platform
- Designing and implementing a data ingestion and transformation strategy to efficiently deliver data into data lake
- Growing the technical expertise of the team through hiring, coaching, mentoring and offering hands-on career development
Got the skills and experience? Here’s what we’re looking for:
- 10+ years of experience implementing IT platforms
- 5+ years of people management experience, leading teams with various technical abilities
- Experience with prioritization of projects that mitigate trade-offs
- Experience building large-scale data platforms and leveraging industry best practices
- 5+ years of experience with high availability and concurrent distributed infrastructures
- Experience working with data engineering–related tools and technologies
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to convey concepts to individuals with varying levels of technical understanding across teams
- Comfort working with ambiguity
- Proficiency with implementation of data validation, pipeline monitoring, error alerting and data recovery
