GRM Actuarial – Global Non-Price Predictive Modeling is searching for a highly motivated Director II (STP), Data Science who is eager to make an impact on the very complex and evolving insurance industry. As the Emerging Data & Technology expert for the US NPPM team, you will be responsible for identifying cutting-edge data science techniques to improve model accuracy and making existing tools/ apps more efficient and easier-to-use. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of developing creative solutions to complex problems that enable strategic decision making. Advanced communication and collaboration skills are critical to the role, as the individual will provide highly technical analytical assessments and recommendations to business problems facing GRM Actuarial to a variety of audiences. This is a highly visible position that will connect often with senior management and other groups across Liberty Mutual and will report directly to the US NPPM leader.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain expertise in a wide range of data science technologies/techniques and recommend the appropriate approach for the given model or analysis.
- Provide expert consultation, guidance and peer-reviews to GRM Actuarial on modeling projects and business questions.
- Collaborate with other business partners to develop advanced statistical approaches and tools that will drive strategic decision making related to reserving, trends and other challenging problems central to our business.
- Understand the competitive marketplace, business issues, and data challenges to deliver actionable insights, recommendations and business processes.
- Supervise and perform highly complex, technical and creative predictive modeling projects.
- Effectively communicate results, insights and recommendations in written, oral and presentation formats to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Regularly engage with data science communities to develop best practices and lead cross-functional working groups.
- Provide technical oversight and mentor Global NPPM members.
- Master’s degree or higher in Mathematics, Economics, Statistics or any other quantitative field OR comparable actuarial education/designation with 7 to 9 years of relevant work experience.
- Deep knowledge of predictive analytics techniques, statistical diagnostics of models and a wide variety of modeling techniques including survival models, random forests, clustering, anomaly detection, and Bayesian approaches to data analysis.
- Expert skills in statistical/data processing software packages and programming languages (e.g., SAS, R, Python)
- Proven ability to lead and drive complex projects and assignments to completion through others, and effectively engage talent.
- Knowledge of insurance principles, underwriting and the various functions of an insurance organization, including Finance, Underwriting, Sales and Claims desirable.
- Exceptional leadership, problem solving, decision making and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to exchange ideas and convey complex information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to give effective presentations to and influence senior leaders and other groups.
