Job Description:
This position will support efforts to grow LSU’s national security-related research enterprise. This individual will be proficient in developing intelligent algorithms capable of learning, analyzing and predicting future events. This position will use machine learning, deep learning, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), computer vision, chatbots, and robotics to enable data, data analytics and AI to facilitate faster and better decision-making in support of DoD and IC initiatives. Position will report to the Director of Transformational Technologies & Cyber Research Center (TTCRC) under the Stephenson National Center for Security Research & Training (SNCSRT). Position is responsible for developing groundbreaking research associated with the National security research portfolio, identifying new sponsored research opportunities with DoD and Intelligence Community partners, and preparing and executing strategic proposals in collaboration with key LSU support staff and faculty. Position will be focused on strategic portfolio development, with an emphasis on growing the applied research portfolio.
Job Responsibilities:
Design, plan, conduct and coordinate various research projects in support of the SNCSRT portfolio. Understand and communicate key challenges and R&D priorities regarding DoD and other national security organizations to develop the LSU applied research portfolio. Develop research proposals, key research tasks, and deliverables in support of DoD, IC, and Aerospace and Defense Industry Customers. Summarize results and provide required documentation and SW/HW deliverables to sponsors. (55%)
Engage Government and Industry sponsors, with support from LSU staff and faculty, to shape strategic research opportunities and win research contracts. Establish and use a professional network with key customers, influencers, and executive decision-makers in the national security community and gain insight into strategic directions, policies, R&D priorities, allocated budgets, and plans associated with relevant national security programs. Provide recommended prioritization of new sponsored research opportunities to the SNCSRT leadership team. (30%)
Provide technical leadership of research projects or project subtasks and coordination across academic departments and research groups for interdisciplinary efforts. (10%)

Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a field relevant to the given focus area.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a field relevant to the given focus area and 3-5 years of experience.
Special / Additional Qualifications:
Must be eligible to receive a TS/SCI security clearance.
Physical Demands:
Physical ability and eye-hand coordination necessary to use a computer terminal, copier, telephone and other standard office equipment; ability to sit in the same position for extended periods (5.5+ hours a day) at a time using continuous hand motions when entering data into the computer system.
