Who You’ll Work With
You’ll work in Mumbai, India as part of our Advanced Industries team, focused on Automotive & Assembly (A&A) topics.
McKinsey’s Advanced Industries practice consists of three of McKinsey’s core sectors – Automotive & Assembly, Aerospace & Defense, and Advanced Electronics. The Automotive & Assembly practice serves clients along the full automotive value chain and industrial players focused on assembling complex products (e.g., agricultural, construction, mining and machinery).
Additionally, you’ll be part of a much larger structure, our global Client Capabilities Network which includes more than 1,800 knowledge professionals who work alongside our consultants and clients to generate distinctive insights and proprietary knowledge.
What You’ll Do
You will respond to complex research questions by delivering synthesized, actionable facts and insights to our consulting teams and clients.
In this role, you will also have the opportunity to work alongside McKinsey consultants and senior knowledge professionals on larger client projects and internal knowledge initiatives. By collecting and analyzing data and information found in databases and/or other primary and secondary research tools, you will assemble a fact base, counsel consultants and clients on the scope of the business and economic trends surrounding the issue, and provide insights and analysis for solving client problems at hand.
Your day-to-day tasks will include identifying the key issues for the problem at hand and determining the most appropriate solution while effectively balancing quality, availability, timeliness and cost factors. You will perform a variety of analyses such as benchmarking, trend identification, industry profiling, market sizing, growth projections, opportunity scanning, etc., in order to add value to problem-solving discussions, and you’ll provide synthesis, insights and client implications within tight deadlines via end products in the form of PowerPoint charts, written memos, models and framework.
In time, you will also participate in, and eventually lead, internal knowledge development and capability-building initiatives and you’ll use advanced analytics tools to prepare and analyze large datasets to distill insights. In addition, you will also get a chance to work on research for the latest disruptive topics such as autonomous, connected vehicles, Electrification and Shared Mobility (ACES) to develop a forward-thinking and integrated perspective, industry expertise and proprietary research to help our clients navigate the mobility revolution.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field with an outstanding academic record; advanced degree preferred
- Previous work experience in automotive, machinery or related industries; experience in a research role with a research or consulting firm is a plus
- Knowledge of the global and Indian automotive industry and latest trends around electrifications, shared mobility and autonomous is good to have
- Solid understanding of economic, financial and general business concepts and terminology
- Familiarity with core statistical concepts (e.g., correlation, regressions, confidence intervals, etc.)
- Superior problem-solving, analytical and quantitative skills
- Advanced Excel skills; VBA programming skills is a plus
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization
- Strong communication skills as well as skills to communicate complex ideas effectively
