The purpose of the Data Engineer position is to expand and optimize our data and data pipeline architecture, as well as optimizing data flow and collection throughout the enterprise. This role is responsible for the maintenance, improvement, cleaning, and manipulation of data in the business’s operational and analytics databases. The Data Engineer works with Business Intelligence Engineers, Data Analysts, Database Administrators, Software Engineers, System Administrators, and business stakeholders to understand and aid in the implementation of database requirements, analyze performance, and troubleshoot issues.
The Data Engineer will be an expert in SQL development further providing support to the Business Intelligence and Software Engineers in database design, data flow, and analysis activities. The position of the Data Engineer also plays a key role in the development and deployment of innovative big data platforms for advanced analytics and data processing. The role of the Data Engineer is responsible for verifying code quality, structure and design for data systems, and assisting Data Engineering Manager with coding artifacts, and supporting various data initiatives.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or Information
Systems or similar discipline.
EXPERIENCE:
- 1-3 years of professional hands-on experience in the development, implementation and
maintenance of a scalable data management architecture
SKILLS:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven self-starter with an understanding of personal and team accountability.
- Excellent organizational, time management and project management skills.
- Skilled in MS SQL Server administrative and development concepts, practices and procedures.
- Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
- Experience building ‘big data’ data pipelines and datasets.
- Proven experience in the use of data extraction, transformation and loading technologies, such as SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) or Talend’s Integration Services.
- Understands and can apply fundamental concepts, practices and procedures related to data warehouse design (e.g. dimensional modeling)
- Experience manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disconnected datasets.
- Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
PREFERENCES:
- Experience with Talend’s Big Data Platform
- Experience with Azure Cloud Services
