Position Summary
Natera is seeking a Data Science Intern to join the data science team at Natera. The mission of the team is to do cutting-edge research, and design and prototyping cutting-edge algorithms for analysis of genetic and clinical data. You will perform data analysis, algorithm design, contribute to our intellectual property portfolio, and interact closely with R&D and product teams to define the requirements and improve the products and processes. As a data science intern you have the ability to develop, automate, and run analytical models. You will have strong modeling skills and are comfortable analyzing data and working from concept through to execution. The ideal candidates are good at breaking down problems, building solutions, and delivering actionable insights, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Work with a team of data scientists to develop and implement novel algorithmic techniques for machine learning applications
- Participate in research-specific topics, provide a summary of the research and detail its application to the host and group
- Assist with Moving the products through the full development process
- Interact with internal and external key stakeholders
- Prioritize workloads and ensure deadlines are met
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Bioinformatics), STEM, or related field
- Practical experience in several of the following areas: machine learning, statistics, data analysis
- Strong machine learning knowledge and hands-on experience solving real ML/AI problems
- Experience in large scale data processing
- Working knowledge of SQL
- Working knowledge of Python or R
- Proven ability to apply mathematical principles to solve real estimation problems and implement practical solutions
- Excellent communication skills and the desire to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment
- Desire to learn about genetics, sequencing technologies, etc.
- The ability to work independently and proactively
Desirable But Not Required
- Previous experience in healthcare
- Experience with scalable data processing tools (Spark, Dataflow or similar)
- Previous exposure to next-generation sequencing analysis
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Experience in using Python, R in data analysis
- Excellent communication skills and the desire to work in a dynamic and collaborative environment
- Desire to learn about human genetics and sequencing technologies
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
Duties are typically performed in an office setting. This position requires the ability to use a computer keyboard, communicate over the telephone and read printed material.
