Job Description
The Data, Analysis and Visualization group in NREL’s Computational Science Center has an immediate opening for a Visualization Scientist to execute a cross-disciplinary research portfolio in scientific visualization with an emphasis in visual analytics and knowledge discovery in large-scale computational data.
The successful candidate will help to develop visualization-based software to model and analyze complex integrated energy systems. The candidate will integrate these software tools with scientific and engineering workflows for decision support and data analysis. These workflows will include the use of state-of-the-art high-performance parallel computing (HPC) and visualization facilities. The candidate will evaluate and communicate results through written research reports for publication and presentation at seminars, will participate in group meetings and seminars, and will assist in developing grant proposals for new research directions.

Basic Qualifications

Relevant PhD . Or, relevant Master’s Degree and 3 or more years of experience . Or, relevant Bachelor’s Degree and 5 or more years of experience . Demonstrates complete understanding and wide application of scientific technical procedures, principles, theories and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines. Demonstrates leadership in one or more areas of team, task or project lead responsibilities. Demonstrated experience in management of projects. Very good technical writing, interpersonal and communication skills.

Additional Required Qualifications
The candidate will bring a solid background in scientific visualization, including a working understanding of visual analytics, human-computer interaction, and high-dimensional data visualization techniques. The candidate should be willing to work in an interdisciplinary field, together with computer scientists, policy analysts, domain scientists, and engineers. The candidate will possess strong programming and algorithm developments skills and have a wide of range programming experience, include in one or more HPC programming languages (i.e., Python, C++). In addition, the ideal candidate will have working knowledge of visualization hardware and visualization programming experience using one or more of the following: OpenGL, Vulkan, or WebGL.

  • Experience with multi-projector displays, optical tracking, and large-scale touch interfaces

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)

Job Profile: Researcher III / Annual Salary Range: $75,500 – $135,900

NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, as well as the position’s work location, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees.
