Who we are
Security Policy and Insights (SPI) is a collaborative group of security engineers and data engineers with the mission of securing Netflix consumer products like streaming and gaming. We leverage data, anomaly detection, and machine learning methods to protect Netflix services against a variety of fraud and abuse.
Security and trust are crucial to the Netflix business model and as a result, we are part of an engineering organization that treats security as an integral part of product development. Opportunities for Impact

  • Building scalable data pipelines to support security dashboards.
  • Developing data metrics to enable long-term trend analysis of product security capabilities.
  • Supporting heuristics and data needs to automate anomaly detection for content/device security.
  • Enabling the team to analyze the effectiveness of their security solutions and push the boundaries of extracting security insights from our data.
  • Liaise between data, security, and product teams.

How you will do it

  • Build data pipelines, metrics, and analysis for insight into security problems and help automate decision-making and engineering investments.
  • Partner with server and data science teams to ensure data integrity and accessibility.
  • Thrive in a rapidly changing environment with ambiguous requirements by taking calculated and intelligent risks.
  • Identify, promote and execute a practical balance between user experience, security needs, and business needs through strategic partnerships with Security & Data Science teams.


Who you are

  • An experienced Data Engineer who is proficient in schema design, data modeling, at least one primary language (e.g., Java, Scala, Python), and SQL (any variant).
  • You strive to write elegant and maintainable code, and you’re comfortable picking up new technologies.
  • You have built distributed data pipelines for both batch and real-time (our stack is Spark, Flink, Hive/Iceberg, and Kafka – experience with these technologies is helpful but not strictly required).
  • Expert in utilizing scalable data insight platforms and tools like Tableau, SQL, ELK, Jupyter, and D3, and have an understanding of performant ETL and data warehousing concepts.
  • Curious about attacker incentives and how malicious behavior can be identified in data.
  • A strong communicator & collaborator in varying contexts & environments.
  • Enthusiastic about innovating within a culture that is fast-paced, dynamic, and self-directed.
Location of work: We are flexible on location and open to fully remote within the United States, relocation, and local candidates.
