Responsibilities:
The Associate Director of Data Analytics and Operations is a member of the Recruiting and Admissions Team, reporting to the Assistant Dean of Graduate Recruitment and Admissions. The Associate Director has primary responsibility for the overall management of data, systems, reporting, analytics and operations for recruiting and admissions. Managing the recruiting and admission operations includes application processing, admission and yield communications, recruitment and events, database management (Slate, ApplyYourself, BusinessCAS, Salesforce, and others) and reporting.
The ideal candidate will maintain collaborative working relationships with stakeholders both domestic and international, all levels of faculty and staff and possess the ability to effectively interact with university-based cross-functional departments.
Analytics
The Associate Director serves as a data steward for DMSB Graduate Business Programs and plays a key role in developing business intelligence and insights into the behaviors of prospective students, applicants, admitted candidates and enrolled students in the context of a competitive landscape. In collaboration with Graduate Business Program team leaders, the Associate Director will develop metrics that lead to understanding the DMSB graduate student experience. Responsibilities also include building dashboards and detailed reports to facilitate decision making
The Associate Director creates and refines systems, policies, and procedures for managing and accessing data, ensuring quality, accuracy, security, organization and compliance with Northeastern policies for safeguarding institutional data. The Associate Director serves as the primary liaison to several departments within DMSB and the university, including the DMSB Marketing Team, Enrollment Management, Registrar and University Decision Support, as well as with vendors and other external partners.
Operations
The Associate Director oversees the completion of rankings surveys, the admissions application process, and execution of recruiting events (including corporate on-site visits, information sessions, and fairs and forums). Responsibilities also include managing the various database and web-based systems used by the DMSB recruiting and admissions teams; assessing system performance and making recommendations for hardware, software, and data storage improvements and training team members.
Qualifications:
Strong analytical, technical, and communication skills with an ability to explain complex problems and precisely convey analyses, reports, and/or visual solutions. Candidates must demonstrate a professional presence and maturity in dealing with a variety of audiences, external and internal to the university. Excellent interpersonal, oral presentation, and written communication skills are critical for success.
Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics/Statistics, Business Administration or another technical field. A master’s degree in Data Science or Business Analytics is required with at least three years of analytics experience.
Experience extracting and combining data from multiple databases and systems (such as student information systems, client relationship management systems, and others) and contextualizing insights.
Fluency with data science/machine learning, R, Python and SQL required along with database development and data visualization platforms such as Tableau, Power BI or other data presentation layer tools. Practical experience with applied statistical techniques including regression analysis, significance testing, and descriptive statistics. Familiarity with machine learning concepts (such as random forest models). Excellent math, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Ability to analyze, interpret, and organize large amounts of data.
In-depth understanding of modern database and information technologies. Appreciation of data security and confidentiality required with applicant and university data.
Strong project management/organizational skills with attention to detail, commitment to quality, and ability to balance multiple demands from demanding constituencies. Supervisory experience preferred. Creativity, positive can-do attitude, flexibility, initiative, and ability to function effectively as member of a team. Responsive to feedback and committed to continuous improvement.
The local MBA, MS and Graduate Certificate program markets are extremely competitive. Use of data analytics to inform recruiting strategies is essential to increase the quantity and quality of prospective candidates, applicants, admitted and enrolled students. The DMSB is committed to raising visibility by improving its position in the business school rankings. The Associate Director’s efforts will be critical in this regard.
