Job Description
Northern Arizona University’s Assistant Comptroller is now hiring for one (1) Business Intelligence Analyst, Senior. This position evaluates and addresses the university’s business intelligence, reporting, and data analysis needs. The successful candidate will transform business data into actionable information to make sound decisions and drive business value as well as develos data-driven insights, identifiy efficiency opportunities, and drive reporting automation initiatives.
Data Analysis, Business Intelligence, and Reporting – 60%
- Works with complex, disparate, financial data to derive meaningful visualizations.
- Compiles data, develops reports, and determines recommendations.
- Gathers and analyzes university business data & information to assess the impact of changes to current business processes, and formulate recommendations.
- Identifies risk factors associated with business process and the need for compliance, continuity of operations, and other risk mitigations to ensure consistency, efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness of the unit.
- Defines metrics and KPIs to quantify business process efficiencies and effectiveness.
- Understands and applies appropriate data handling practices with university data.
Automation and Efficiency Identification and Analysis – 35%
- Leverages a data-driven approach to create specifications for new business process designs and intelligence solutions for presentation to department leadership.
- Identifies and recommends solutions for streamlining and improving the operations of the organization.
- Collaborates with finance professionals, business analysts, and stakeholders as necessary to ensure complex projects and reporting are deployed appropriately.
- Designs test plans using advanced cases to assess impact of business process changes on university systems.
Other – 5%

Minimum Qualifications
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, or related field.
- 2-4 years of accounting or business experience OR
- Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business, accounting, finance, MIS, or related field.
- Accounting and/or finance experience in higher education.

Knowledge
- Advanced knowledge of business intelligence and analysis techniques, including specification & requirements gathering, data management & aggregation and implementation & testing.
- Knowledge of translating non-technical requirements into technical business requirements.
- Knowledge of financial analysis and reporting in higher education.
- Knowledge of business and technology to recommend systems and process improvements.
Skills
- Experience with data visualization and summarization tools (SQL, MS SQLServer, Tableau).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
- Familiarity with PeopleSoft, ServiceNow.
- Skill in developing stories with complex data.
- Skill in accounting information systems.
- Skill in data management techniques.

Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary
Anticpated salary range is $62,996 – $78,745. Annual salary commensurate with candidate’s qualifications and related experience.
FLSA Status
This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.
Benefits
This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System; paid vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. More information on benefits at NAU is available on the Human Resources benefits website. Classified Staff employees are in a probationary status for their first six months at NAU. New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. Additionally, new employees will begin participating in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee’s start date.
