You’ll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. ( preferably in Southern California/ Orange County area) as you take on some tough challenges.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Be an individual contributor in the Data Science team and work with team members across the globe to solve real-world problems in the Healthcare domain using cutting-edge capabilities and emerging technologies
- Deliver advanced Data Science capabilities to businesses in a meaningful manner through successful proof-of-concept solutions, and later smoothly transition the proof-of-concept into production
- Leverage Optum, part of the UnitedHealth Group family of businesses, big data analytics infrastructure to tackle previously unsolved problems across Risk and Quality, Fraud Waste and Abuse, Provider Operations, Provider Experience, Customer Engagement and Experience, Clinical Services etc.
- Conduct evaluations and assessments of new tools and technologies to ensure that the team stays at the frontier of Analytics. (e.g. evaluate application of Graph Technology for detecting insurance fraud)
- Positions in this function produce innovative solutions driven by exploratory data analysis from unstructured, diverse datasets typically measured in gigabytes or larger
- Applies knowledge of statistics, machine learning, programming, data modeling, simulation, and advanced mathematics to recognize patterns, identify opportunities, pose business questions, and make valuable discoveries leading to prototype development and product improvement
- Uses a flexible, analytical approach to design, develop, and evaluate predictive and prescriptive models and advanced algorithms that lead to optimal value extraction from the data
- Coordinates, supervises and is accountable for the daily activities of business support, technical or production team or unit
- Peer review/quality check for other data scientist, including evaluating for completeness and bias
- Excellent written and communication skills. Responsible for documentation of logic and results and presenting logic and results to internal team, external stakeholders and executive leadership

Required Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
- Individual Contributor with 4+ years of experience in Analytics/Data Science
- Demonstrated hands-on experience in working with Big Data technologies
- Ability to travel 10%-15%
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate degree in Engineering/Statistics/Economics/Computer Science/Mathematics (with a strong quantitative background)
- Consistent track record of building and successfully deploying advanced analytics solutions with demonstrable value to the organization
- Excellent consulting skills, including the ability to engage with and present to CXO leaders as well as stakeholders with minimum to high analytics exposure across various departments in an organization
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to disaggregate issues, identify root causes and recommend solutions
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Professional, service oriented, proactive, and flexible

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only : The salary range for Colorado/Connecticut/Nevada residents is $113,500 to $218,100.
