Job Description
The Data Analytics team uses clinical and real-world data sources, to better understand diseases and the treatments that doctors prescribe for patients. We develop advanced analytics for these datasets to uncover new insights that can inform treatment patterns and highlight the value of new therapies. The intern will perform data science and machine learning tasks, such as classification, clustering, and predictive modeling, on a variety of data types beyond the common clinical and commercial pharmaceutical datasets, including free text, medical images, electronic health records, insurance claims, and speech data. This will be a great opportunity for an aspiring data scientist to get real-world experience with data science projects that will eventually be incorporated into new capabilities for generating medical insights.
The intern will be working on one of the following projects:
- Digital Health: Modeling patient behavior over time from wearables and other digital data
- Physiological Sensor Data: Building models to analyze sensor data, such as accelerometers, ECG, EEG, images, etc.
- Speech Analysis: Classifying mental health patients using acoustic signatures from recorded speech data
- Real-World Pharmaceutical Data: Characterizing patient treatment patterns and outcomes using electronic health records and health insurance claims data
Knowledge/ Experience And Skills
Qualifications/ Required
- Experience using Microsoft Office, such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbal and written format
- Ability to work on multiple projects while executing on key deliverables within required timeframes
- Ability to write and debug scripts in Python, as well as familiarity with common Python packages (e.g., numpy, pandas, sci-kit learn)
- Familiarity with common machine learning tasks (feature selection, classification, clustering, regression) and algorithms
- Ability to generate visualizations and reports describing machine learning methodologies and results
Educational Qualifications
- Enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program at an accredited college or university following the potential internship
- Must have completed at least the 1st year of Master’s level studies prior to internship
- Areas of study – Data Science, Computer Science, Computer Programming, Engineering, or Other Quantitative Discipline
