Job Description
The Data & Analytics team uses clinical and real-world data sources, to better understand diseases and the treatments that doctors prescribe for patients. We develop advanced analytics for these datasets to uncover new insights that can inform treatment patterns and highlight the value of new therapies. The intern will perform data science and machine learning tasks, such as classification, clustering, and predictive modeling, on a variety of data types beyond the common clinical and commercial pharmaceutical datasets, including free text, medical images, electronic health records, insurance claims, and speech data. This will be a great opportunity for an aspiring data scientist to get real-world experience with data science projects that will eventually be incorporated into new capabilities for generating medical insights.
By everaging historical and real-world data for late-phase study designs using Bayesian and AI/ML approaches, the intern will explore recent approaches including Bayesian/AI/ML methods for external/synthetic arm and covariates adjustment. The comparative analysis will be applied to multiple therapeutic areas including mental health and renal disease, by utilizing the largely available clinical trial data across phases as well as real-world data. The intern will work on novel statistical methods and strategy on borrowing historical and external data at different levels of availability (e.g., individual patient-level data versus study-level summary). This project will also investigate the known issues in borrowing historical/real-world data, such as between-study variability in placebo/control arms, potential prior-data conflict, and how they can be addressed in an innovative, adaptive way to aid in new study designs for internal trials. A platform based on R shiny with well-documented methods will be provided to enable capability, efficiency and innovation that integrates the novel Bayesian and AI/ML approaches for study design and facilitates robust decision making.
