We’re actively seeking a talented Data Analyst to join our underwriting team in Newport Beach, CA or Aliso Viejo, CA. This role is preferably on-site with consideration for hybrid.
As a Data Analyst, you’ll play a key role in Pacific Life’s growth and long-term success by providing essential analytical support to our innovative team dedicated to underwriting transformation. You will be exposed to vast amounts of medical data and cutting-edge analytical tools. As an agile and motivated learner in data analytics skills and business concepts, you will work closely with stakeholders across our firm to include data scientist, underwriters and actuaries to solve problems and improve business performance.
How You Will Make An Impact
- Stay intimately close to the department’s underwriting innovation development, evaluate emerging data sources and apply analytical and machine learning techniques to uncover unprecedented insights
- Develop the measurement framework and dashboards to track the success of our Accelerated Underwriting business, think strategically and creatively to improve mortality & expense experience and draw other actionable business insights
- Think critically on the casual effects in datasets and rapidly prototyping compelling data visuals using Tableau and other dat visualization tools on bespoke questions from the underwriters and business leaders
- Devise innovative process to streamline data flow from database to actuarial / machine learning models using Python and SQL
- Collaborate and communicate effectively among underwriters, actuaries and data scientists
The Experience You Will Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Actuary Science, Operations Research, Computer Science or other quantitate fields
- Experience manipulating large data sets and building statistical models
- Experience with programing language on Python and SQL
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skill, both written and verbal
What Will Make You Stand Out
- Experience working in the life insurance industry
- Experience working with underwriters, familiarity with underwriting data
- Experience with Tableau desktop/server, Power BI or similar data visualization tools
- Knowledge of predictive analytics concepts (clustering, decision trees, neural networks, etc.); their advantages and drawbacks
- Experience working with database (Snowflake, Oracle)
