Responsibilities
The Applied AI Systems Group is seeking post-master research data scientists focusing on developing and building data science solutions for pressing national security problems and challenges. At PNNL we specialize in applying deep learning and machine learning to provide our sponsors with cutting-edge capability.
We are looking for a motivated person with excellent applied machine learning, deep learning, statistics, or deep domain knowledge willing to grow into machine learning. Additionally, someone with strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate with other members of the group and engineers across the division.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Candidates must have received a Master’s degree within the past 24 months or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 required.
Preferred Qualifications:

Proficiency in Python and data science packages (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, SciPy, Matplotlib).

Proficiency in modern machine learning libraries (such as PyTorch or Tensorflow).

Proficiency with software version control systems (such as Git).

Effective written and oral communication is required.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively on diverse teams are required. Proven ability to work independently and to quickly adapt to new scientific environments.
