Job Summary: We are seeking a Data Engineer (SQL) Intern to assist with and eventually take full ownership of building data pipelines, with a primary focus on SQL. The candidate should be GenAI empowered and should effectively use the same to generate complex SQL queries swiftly while maintaining a good knowledge base and not compromising data integrity and quality. Hands-on experience is highly preferred, but basic mathematical skills, logical thinking and problem-solving abilities, computer science fundamentals, strong communication skills, analytical skills, and familiarity with software applications and cloud computing are non-negotiables.

This is an excellent opportunity for passionate technology enthusiasts aiming to implement data engineering solutions in a fast-paced, dynamic, and agile environment. Though the initial focus will be on SQL and RDBMS based solutions ONLY, based on performance, the candidate will be encouraged to expand their tech stack and implement more robust and modern data engineering and database solutions.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, optimize, and maintain efficient and scalable SQL data pipelines. This includes writing queries for complex data transformation, cleaning, validation, and ensuring data integrity.
• Monitor and optimize database performance by tuning SQL queries, improving query execution plans, implementing indexing strategies, and deploying other performance-enhancing measures.
• Write and execute test cases to validate the functionality and performance of the data pipeline.
• Implement error handling mechanisms to handle exceptions, ensure data integrity, and log relevant information for troubleshooting.
• Maintain version control and comprehensively document the data architecture design/ redesign, workflow, purpose, data sources, transformations, destination systems, and dependencies for better manageability and collaboration.
• Perform routine database maintenance tasks, including but not limited to data backup and archival, schema compliance checks, log management etc.
• Ensure security measures to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and organizational policies.

Requirements, Skills & Experience:

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field, with a strong academic track record demonstrating proficiency in database management and data analysis.
• Solid understanding of SQL and relational database concepts, with practical experience in SQL databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or Oracle.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Power Query for data manipulation, analysis, and reporting. Experience in data cleansing, transformation, and integration using Power Query is highly valued.
• Exposure to generative AI technologies and their applications in data engineering, with the ability to leverage AI-driven insights and automation to enhance data pipeline development.
• Familiarity with data warehousing concepts, ETL processes, and data modeling techniques, including experience in designing and implementing data models to meet business requirements.
• Understanding of big data technologies and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, coupled with exposure to cloud-based data services, data lakes, and serverless computing environments.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, demonstrated by the ability to analyze complex datasets, identify patterns, and derive actionable insights.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, enabling effective articulation of technical concepts and collaboration with cross-functional teams. Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Hands-on experience in data analysis with data visualization and reporting tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Looker etc. is advantageous.
• Basic proficiency in programming languages such as Python, with the ability to automate data processes, develop custom scripts, and integrate data across different platforms.
