About the Role:

The job of an ML Engineer at 7-Eleven Global Center comes with a lot of responsibility and lots of fun.

Youre looking for a role where you can drive decisions, be challenged, and build products ground-up. You want to collaborate with smart, creative, and energetic people, who share a passion for technology and commerce. Your responsibilities at the center include:

• Design and develop Machine Learning and Data Science solutions for 7-Eleven retail challenges
• Operationalize solutions through automation of data pipelines
• Experiment with off the shelf libraries and/or build custom solutions using a deep understanding of statistical algorithms
• Participate with business stakeholders in the areas of personalization, supply chain, inventory management, labor management etc
• Challenge oneself and others in continuous improvement through proof on concepts, industry research, internal and external model bake-offs

Required Skills:

• Must be a self-starter and proactive individual
• Expert knowledge of Big Data technologies including but not limited to Python and/or Databricks

In this hybrid role you will work on consumer research and correlate it with science of product development. Deep understanding of qualitative and quantitative sensory/consumer research tools. You should be able to independently manage sensory science, supervise the training and calibration of expert panel, employee, and/or consumer program on assigned category project and collaborate with other functions such as Insights community, Technology and Business partners on program initiatives.

You should be flexible enough to work on the actionable insights and convert the consumer insights into a prototype (MVP) and gain support of internal stakeholders (marketing, supply chain and GTCs) and bring the idea to life in the form of a marketable product.

You are required to partner with multiple stakeholders both within & outside the GTC and achieve win-win partnerships at all times. In addition also attain excellence in operations (compliance to safety, quality and regulatory guidelines, smooth pilot plant operations, panel managements etc.) while working on product development initiatives.

Main Responsibilities:

• Design and manage implementation of sensory/consumer research studies to support product/package bundles developed at the Global Technology Center in assigned category
• Interpret and summarize key category learning for complex research programs across expert panel, employee, and consumer studies, communicate results and make actionable recommendations through research reports and presentations to senior management
• Supervise the training and calibration of expert panel, employee, and/or consumer program on assigned category projects
• Collaborate with other functions such as Insights community, Technology and Business partners on program initiatives
• Apply experimental design approach to appropriate research projects to deliver broad category learning

• Leverage Science & data analytics to identify potential problems or opportunities and create appropriate action plan in consultation with manager to address the same
• Operational Excellence: Formulation Development, Service Consumer Test Samples, Lab & Pilot plant batches, Aging Studies, Record Keeping & Documentation
• Provide excellent support for all on-going and new product development projects & initiatives such as margin improvement programs to improve bottom line.
• Utilize statistical approaches to experimental design to maximize learning with the least amount of time and with minimum resources
• Be 100% compliant to all Product Safety, Quality, and Regulatory requirements to operate with cost-effectiveness and speed throughout the product life cycle.
• Supplier Qualification Program: Lead supplier qualification programs for raw & packing materials & provide required support to packaging material qualification programs.
• Be agile and respond quickly to changing consumer and/or business expectations

New Product Development

• Develop impactful claims for all existing & new products leading to sustainable business growth. Translate technical attributes into simple, consumer-relevant benefits and concepts

• Apply scientific knowledge and strong sense of curiosity in all aspects of the job including innovation, problem-solving, and troubleshooting

Business Partnering / Relationship Building

• Build formal & informal networks to constantly stay updated with new technology trends and breakthroughs
• Collaborate effectively with all internal & external stakeholders within and outside Colgate to ensure smooth implementation of technology programs. Example: Partnership with Marketing/CIC, Supply Chain, teams within India GTC and Piscataway and other GTCs.

What you’ll need…

• Masters/Bachelor Degree in such areas as Sensory Science, Statistics, Food Engineering/Science, along with pharmacy or basic science’s background would be added advantage
• At least 5 years of experience in R&D
