How You’ll Make An Impact
We have a terrific internship opportunity in our Technical Operations team for an intelligent and motivated individual to learn about data center operations, deployment and site reliability for a large-scale consumer online service. As a member of our Data Center Engineering and Operations team, you will learn about and assist with the day-to-day operations of our co-location data centers and assume a critical role in maintaining the overall uptime, performance, and capacity of the SiriusXM/Pandora service. You will be able to bring your technical knowledge to bear in supporting the various services we manage and take on interesting and mission-critical projects as part of a fast-paced, highly collaborative team. We hold ourselves to high standards, and take pride in our work.
What You’ll Do
Understand the overall workflow of day-to-day Data Center operations.
Assist with Data Center build-outs for new and existing footprints.
Plan and assist with hardware life-cycle management from provisioning to retiring and decommission.
Perform hardware diagnostics and troubleshoot server hardware and network equipment problems.
Document and track all assigned Data Center related tasks via our internal ticketing system in a timely fashion.
Adhere to Data Center operations, logistics, security and safety related processes and guidelines.
Share ideas and contribute in projects to improve the Data Center work environment and to improve Data Center operational efficiencies.
Work with external/3rd party vendors and contractors to achieve organization needs.
Accept a designated, business-focus project to research, propose ideas and solutions and present a final project during the internship.
What You’ll Need
Internships are open to current students enrolled at a university (those graduating by May 2024 are preferred) and recent graduates who graduated within the 12-month period prior to the start of the internship.
Passion about IT infrastructure and hardware.
Basic knowledge of systems hardware and network devices.
IT troubleshooting experience is a plus.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Practical knowledge with Linux operating system and command line.
Experience with server hardware components, operation, failures and basic troubleshooting.
Experience with TCP/IP networking, setup and configuration.
Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Perl or Shell Scripting is a plus, but not required.
Attention to detail and strong organization skills.
Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds safely and reliably.
Must have legal right to work in the U.S.
