Associate, Portfolio/Performance Analytics
SUMMARY:
The Associate conducts performance and portfolio analytics and generates reports for the Funds and other investment vehicles on a regular basis. The individual is expected to understand portfolio mandates, objectives, strategies, the investment process, and market events and trends to effectively respond to ad hoc and periodical requests for analytics in a timely fashion. The Associate is expected to communicate results effectively to members of the team and to different areas of the Firm. The position requires the use and understanding of different analytical tools to produce performance and holdings-based analyses that are used by different groups across the Firm. The Portfolio & Risk Analytics group (P&RA) has a strong, team-based orientation, yet relies upon its members to take initiative and responsibility for their own individual projects. A highly proactive and professional attitude is essential.
Team members collaborate with each other and with departments across the Firm, including the Investments team (equity research analysts and portfolio managers), IT developers, and the accounting department to dissect and analyze the Firm’s investment strategies exposures and performance and provide accurate reports and metrics summarizing results and characteristics.
ESSENTIAL TASKS include the following (other duties may be assigned):
Portfolio Analytics:
- Proficiently use and understand all portfolio and risk analytics tools available, such as FactSet PA and PA API codes, Bloomberg, Morningstar and Advent Portfolio Exchange (APX), as well as proprietary Marketing and Equity Research systems, Starfish and BRAInS
- Conduct portfolio analyses including performance contribution and attribution, exposures, portfolio and performance characteristics, and various risk metrics to assist in the completion of RFPs and DDQs
- Support Sales and Marketing efforts in client meeting preparation by running reports and compiling data
- Handle one-off and ad-hoc portfolio analytics requests and deliver accurate and concise analyses in a timely manner
- Prepare files and/or populate consultant databases with quarterly portfolio and performance-based analytics data in an accurate and timely manner
- Maintain equity research coverage database and assist with performance review process working
- Help P&RA team members with various internal reporting projects and initiatives
- Assist in different research projects requiring the manipulation of complex databases and large quantities of data
- Develop and foster strong, collaborative relationships with other departments within the Firm
Periodical Reporting:
- Contribute to monthly and quarterly reporting processes alongside other members of the P&RA team
- Liaise with different departments to ensure data accuracy and investigate performance related inquiries
- Populate and audit quarterly performance and holdings-based data in Starfish during quarter end reporting
- Maintain internal databases and custom reporting settings
Other:
- Assist in improvements of portfolio reporting and automation projects and the review of data flows into Starfish and BRAInS, working closely with IT Developers and Fund Accounting departments
- Provide support in ongoing initiatives to enhance the P&RA team’s capabilities and efficiencies
- Works directly with head of the P&RA team to maintains a pipeline with the status of the P&RA team’s deliverables and projects
- Update and maintain the “Portfolio & Risk Analytics Procedures Manual
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Sciences or similar fields
- 0 to 3 years of relevant experience in performance/portfolio analysis or risk reporting within the asset management industry, especially in support of both US and non-US equity products, and to a lesser degree, fixed income products
Knowledge:
- Office productivity: Advanced knowledge of MS Excel, VBA, PowerPoint, and Word
- Software languages and other applications: Some knowledge of statistical software packages and data visualization tools (Microsoft Power BI and Tableau) preferred
- Financial applications: FactSet PA and/or Bloomberg desirable
