JOB PURPOSE:
The Advancement Business Intelligence and Reporting Analyst functions in a team environment, working closely with Advancement users throughout the division. This position acts as a business analyst developing and managing end-to-end analytic solutions to support the College’s Advancement operations. This role applies expertise in data science, data source design, and reporting; investigates and analyzes the feasibility of client requirements and develops analytical solutions. Solutions including but not limited to programmatic recommendations, decision support,
KPI development/maintenance and dashboard development.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Reporting to the Director of Research, Relationship Management, and Analytics, the Advancement Business Intelligence and Reporting Analyst works independently and collaboratively to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities:
Business Intelligence Services:

Produces descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics for actionable insights for all Advancement units as well as campus partners.

Design, develop, implement and maintain statistical models to optimize Advancement activities.

Develop key reporting dashboards and visualization tools in support of Advancement activities, including scorecards and KPI’s.

Under the Director’s supervision, provide forecasting and predictive analytics for various business units, ensuring development of KPI’s are aligned with the College’s goal.

Generate near and long-term strategic outlook with each business unit using data informed insight.

Maintain and build collaborative relationships with all stakeholders, including all of Advancement and campus partners.

Provide training on use cases for analytic products such as model scores and reporting
-
Analyze business processes and analytics requirements; develop appropriate solutions using Cognos, Tableau, Microsoft SQL Reporting Services, and other software to produce reliable, accurate, and dependable information for Advancement.

Maintain technical documentation on reporting and analytic solutions.

Author data source procedures and/or queries for reporting and analytics based on business intelligence requirements.

Provide ad hoc analysis upon request. Provide ad hoc data needs for clients upon request.

Act as backup in managing end-user accounts and accessibility on Tableau Server and Cognos.

Manages multiple projects simultaneously and keeps a comprehensive plan of all work in progress.

Ability to recommend realistic deadlines for project completion and completes work on schedule.

Work closely with key internal customers to identify opportunities to further and better support Advancement in terms of reporting and information access.
Data Source and Design:
-
Assist in design and implementation of relational and dimensional data structures within the Advancement Data Warehouse to meet functional requirements.

Develop expert knowledge of source system tables, application business rules and data challenges facing Advancement.

Develop techniques to integrate and transform data effectively on a continuing basis.

Identify sources of data and work with Advancement users to effectively standardize the data content.

Develop overall views incorporating appropriate security in an efficient manner ensuring appropriate data access for all data warehouse users.

Assist in maintenance of metadata, maps and dictionaries for the Advancement Data Warehouse.

Work with the Director of Advancement Data Services to develop procedures to ensure integrity of data.

Work as subject matter expert in partnership with Advancement Service when incorporating data to and from the Advancement Data Warehouse.

Develop and implement quality assurance checks as a routine part of the incremental data loads to verify that the data warehouse data is correctly loaded from production data.

Work with functional users and other members of the Advancement Information Systems team to test and verify data loading processes and correct any problems with data mappings or incorrect data.
Other Duties:

Keep current with the latest technology; regularly attend training to maintain technical expertise.

As needed, participate in the assessment, evaluation, and selection of vendor products.

Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
-
Bachelor’s degree in MIS or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Experience:
-
Experience in data science methodology, utilizing data mining and machine learning techniques. Python or R is highly preferred.
-
Experience in envisioning, advocating, implementing, and maintaining analytical solutions; including complex analysis for strategic and decision-making support.
-
Ability to use independent judgment to manage and impart information to a range of clientele.
-
Experience to support and leverage strong technical teams and complex business systems requirements and processes.
-
Skills in workflow analysis and management knowledge and proven experience with leading projects using standard management principles, practices, techniques, and tools.

Experience at an academic institution is a plus.

Experience with Cognos, Data Warehouse design and implementation, data warehousing life cycle, ETL, and dimensional modeling a plus.

Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to multi-task and set task prioritizations
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND CRITICAL SKILLS:
This position must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the job or must be able to demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed (with or without reasonable accommodation) using other knowledge, skills and abilities not listed below.

Strong Tableau and SQL proficiency. Cognos experience is a plus. Proven experience in developing dashboards and visualizations, along with presentation to decision makers and program managers. Knowledgeable in data analytic techniques, R and Python highly preferred. Ability to work in collaboration with colleagues, to best promote the Advancement’s strategic interests.

REQUIRED HOURS:
The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours may be required. Travel will be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division.
ANNUAL SALARY:
$90,651 – $100,000 salary range
