The Lead Business Intelligence Architect will work as part of the Enterprise Solution Delivery team under the direction of the Manager of Enterprise Solutions Architecture. The position will play a key role in the Enterprise Solutions department and across Protective. The Lead Business Intelligence Architect will work with business groups and IT Leaders to develop and mature the Business Intelligence and Data Analytics strategy at Protective. This role will be an active stakeholder in the Enterprise Data Governance Council. This person will incorporate data security patterns and best practices into Protective’s Enterprise Business Intelligence and Data Analytics strategy. This position will collaborate with other Enterprise Information and Application Architects to develop standard access patterns to enterprise data, and design meta layer patterns able to support varied analytical, reporting and operational capabilities across the enterprise. This role will be a champion of the Business Intelligence and Data Analytics strategy at Protective.

This position will work alongside an active Architecture team and will assist in providing enterprise architectural strategy and direction to various teams, mission critical work streams in an agile environment. This role will be responsible for architecting, designing and developing end to end business intelligence solutions based on Microsoft Power BI platform. They will also assist in building a capability roadmap for Microsoft Power BI at Protective. They will ensure this roadmap adheres to the strategic direction of the overall enterprise architecture. This person will research industry trends and best practices incorporating these into the enterprise data roadmap.
The ideal candidate for this Lead Business Intelligence Architect has experience architecting and developing scalable and comprehensive enterprise Business Intelligence solutions on the Microsoft Power BI platform. They have proven experience working with clients to define user requirements for web analytics, dashboards and reports. They can analyze user requirements and, based on findings, design functional specifications for BI front-end applications. They can define BI framework models, semantic layers and Metadata repositories to support reporting and administration. They can design and manage BI end user presentation layer training and documentation. Candidates must have a strong understanding of database methodology, data analysis, advanced SQL and the Power BI business intelligence platform. The role will be required to provide mentoring to all levels of Power BI users as well as other business and technical professionals as appropriate to increase platform engagement and knowledge sharing. The ideal candidate should have a firm grasp of BI implementation methodologies and will have had in-depth experience with Microsoft Power BI stack. The role also influences others in IT through sharing of specialized business and technical knowledge.

Primary Job Functions

    • Develop Enterprise Microsoft Power BI Strategy
    • Collaborate with Business areas and cross functional Enterprise Architects to fully understand business needs and provide strategic consultation and translate requirements into solution architecture and design roadmap.
    • Actively participate in Data Governance Council
    • Partner with developers, architects, other technical team members and database administrators to design and develop high performing Business Intelligence and Data Analytics solutions and maintain consistent development functions.
    • Architect Enterprise Cloud Data Access Patterns
    • Consult with ESD teams as needed to provide architecture considerations on legacy solutions.
    • Contribute to the development of a mature data stewardship process

Work Experience, Education, Certification/Training Required

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent certifications / experience required
    • 6 + years Data Analytics, Database Modeling experience required
    • 5 + years of Business Intelligence application delivery – Experience in Microsoft Business Intelligence stack (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, SQL Server) required
    • Experience with Microsoft Azure Platform – Emphasis on Power Platform (specifically Power BI), Azure Data Services (SQL Server, Data Lake, DataVerse, etc…)
    • Azure Architecture Certification Preferred
    • Experience working in an Agile environment preferred
    • Experience in relational and dimensional data modeling required
    • Experience in the Insurance industry and/or LOMA coursework preferred; FLMI certification a plus
    • Experience working in a multi-tier data delivery environment required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

    • Ability to lead, influence and modify behaviors on a team comprised of IT and Business partners in support of data strategy
    • Ability to work independently or as a part of team.
    • Knowledge of Power BI, Enterprise Data Reporting, Data Warehousing, Azure Cloud Data platforms
    • Knowledge of structured data, such as entities, classes, hierarchies, relationships and metadata
    • Knowledge of database management system (DBMS) including tables, joins and SQL querying
    • Ability to combine data from multiple sources when needed for analysis
    • Familiarity with and ability to document the use cases, business purposes and quality of the data
    • Understanding of data quality concepts, best practices and tools, with strong experience with data analysis techniques
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to quickly understand how various elements relate to one another, having an end-to-end perspective of decisions and anticipating issues/roadblocks.
Performance-Based Compensation: This position is eligible for an annual incentive based on individual and Company performance.
Note: Pursuant to Colorado law, Protective is providing the applicable salary range for Colorado residents.
Protective’s targeted salary range for this position is $100,000 to $140,000. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to, job location, skills, and experience. The range listed is just one component of Protective’s total compensation package for employees.
This position also offers additional incentive opportunities through an annual incentive based on individual and Company performance as well as a 401k match and a pension plan.
