The Role
Rystad Energy is seeking an ambitious and motivated candidate with a strong academic record of accomplishment, an analytical mindset, good communication and programming skills, and a good understanding of power markets.
The Power Team is part of the analyst department in Rystad Energy and is responsible for maintaining and developing our database and products within the sector. The work done by the Power Team is key for our company’s ambition to become a reference in the energy transition. The work consists of collecting, modelling, and analyzing data and presenting it to clients. This will give you a deep understanding of the long-term electricity markets including renewable energy (such as solar, wind and hydro), conventional sources of electricity (such as gas and coal), and storage. You will work in close collaboration with our consultants and business developers in offices around the world.
Key Responsibilities / Tasks
- Analyze country power markets to understand historical power generation by source and available capacity
- Analyze country energy policies to support work for forecasting the future power mix
- Perform commercial and economic evaluations of all electricity sources including NPV, LCOE and breakeven analysis. This analysis will then be used to forecast electricity prices in key regions
- Create algorithms to crawl power data from official sources. Develop in-house models to forecast long-term electricity prices, country demand, and generation stack
- Gather asset level data (ie. power plant information) to populate our in-house data base. Data includes: power generation capacity, technology, ownership, capacity factor for each plant
- Maintain and update the database with the most up to date information
- Take ownership of delivering reports and commentaries on topical events and conduct presentation with clients
- Build and maintain a strong network of industry contacts
- Become an expert in the power sector
- Work as part of the global energy research team
- Support our clients and business development team
Requirements, Experience & Skills
- At least two years’ experience of working knowledge in the power sector, through direct experience in either a research, developer or power utility role
- University degree in a data driven or energy related field such as electrical engineering, renewable energy, mathematics, engineering or economics (Distinction or above preferable)
- Strong data analyst skills and excellent skills in Microsoft Excel are essential, additional data analyst tools and competence preferable
- Advanced Programming skills in Python, Matlab or similar
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
- Understanding of power markets and pricing mechanisms
- Ability to communicate well both verbally and written
- Self-motivated as well as a strong team player
