General Scope and Summary
Sage Therapeutics is searching for a creative and integrative thinker for an important role in leading and delivering analytics capabilities and projects to help drive our brand strategies and performance. This role is part of the Insights, Analytics, and Forecasting team whose aim is to transform our customer engagement model and drive performance through superior insights and analytics. This individual will have an opportunity lead projects for commercial and omnichannel analytics and leverage these capabilities to drive business strategy, performance, and impact. The analytics scope includes commercial performance analytics, advanced analytics/data science, and digital/omnichannel analytics. You will have the opportunity to work across key US Commercial functions and across all levels of leadership. This person will have an opportunity to work with colleagues to help define and build analytics capabilities with colleagues and third-party partners where needed.
A high proficiency in syndicated and custom pharmaceutical data sources, analytic applications and methodologies, and advanced data science is required. This person should have an ability to apply best-in-class analytics along with a practical orientation on how to leverage these for decision-making and impact. These capabilities would include core analytics capabilities in areas such as identification of business opportunities, segmentation and targeting, return on investment analytics, investment optimization, patient mapping/flow analysis, and experimental design. Further, we’re looking for an analytics leader who has experience and can shape customer engagement strategies leveraging customer engagement and digital channel data. This includes channel execution, engagement, impact assessment, and development of predictive models to guide customized content by channel and customer. Additionally, this leader will work as part of multi-functional teams in defining the data strategy required to support analytics. This role works closely with the Marketing, Sales, Commercial Operations, Market Access, and Digital Enterprise and Capabilities teams.

Roles and Responsibilities

Define required analytics initiatives and projects to support business strategies. Build, deploy, and embed these analytic capabilities into the business and operations.

Define and implement analytic plans to design customer engagement strategies, optimize customer engagements with “next best action”, and optimize performance. This includes measurement of business impact of personal and non-personal engagements.

Deliver core commercial analytics required to support business planning and performance management, including but not limited to ad hoc analyses, segmentation and targeting, patient mapping and flow analysis, and business opportunity identification.

Drive change management, working across cross-functional business partners and different levels of management.

Lead the definition and development of customer-centric analytics to optimize execution, customer engagement, impact, and refinement of omnichannel activities, partnering closely with the Commercial, Commercial Operations, and Digital Enterprise Capabilities teams.

Establish, document, and scale digital and customer analytics capabilities in order to embed them into on-going operations.

Lead rapid testing of new analytics capabilities focused on assessing viability and impact and expanding rapidly if successful.

Collaborate with Sales Force Effectiveness and Analytics and Commercial Operations to ensure success of key business processes.

Champion the use of insights and analytics in decisions across the business.

Serve as a strategic advisor to key Commercial stakeholders.

Monitor the external environment to stay up-to-date on leading analytic capabilities both within and outside of pharma, which can be applied within the organization.
Experience, Education and Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Must have demonstrated ability in defining a compelling vision for analytics in driving impact for the business, developing and implementing analytics capabilities, and hiring and developing strong analytics teams. Additionally, must have a demonstrated ability to translate insights into strategies, excellent analytical skills, and an ability to communicate complex issues in a simple way and to orchestrate plans to resolve issues and mitigate risks.
Basic Qualifications

BA or BS required.

8+ years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical Commercial analytics, data science, and advanced analytics methods, including statistical analysis, design of experiments, data mining, and predictive modeling and machine-learning algorithms.

5+ years of recent experience and proficiency with Python or R, SQL, and application of advanced methods and statistical procedures on large data sets.
Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree (e.g., MBA).

Experience in CNS is a plus.

Experience working with all levels of management and consulting with key business stakeholders.

Proficiency in data mining and extracting insights from large data sources, such as longitudinal claims data sets.

Expertise in managing and analyzing a range of large, secondary transactional databases is required.

Solid understanding of the digital marketing fundamentals and related analytics.

Familiarity with web, search, and social analytics software.

Knowledge of analytics enabling technology (e.g., DataBricks, Cloudera, Impala, Spark, MapReduce).

Experience and knowledge of data visualization tools, such as PowerBI or Tableau.

Experience in MS Office products; Excel and PowerPoint skills required.

Strong team player that has a customer service approach and is solution-oriented.

Attention to detail and the ability to work individually, within a multi-disciplinary team, as well as with external partners and vendors.

Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, problem solving/resolution skills, and a customer focus.
