Salary Range

$98,300 – $190,100

  • Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate¿s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking a highly motivated and hardworking Energy and Data Engineer (Job Title: Operation and Engineering Lead) to join our CA Net Zero Department. The Energy and Data Engineer will lead and support a wide variety of activities that improve energy, water, and operational performance in buildings at Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore. The position will lead the development of analytic capability to identify energy and water savings opportunities, investigate building operations, implement improvements, and verify savings. Analytic capabilities include accessing and developing interfaces to performance and metering data; cleansing, tagging and managing performance and metering data; programming for building automation or monitoring, and data visualization.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Identify, scope, and investigate energy and water performance improvement opportunities
  • Devise solutions that generate savings, improve operating characteristics, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  • Support ongoing commissioning activities that identify, prioritize, investigate, and resolve operational issues in buildings to generate energy and water savings
  • Use building automation systems to access and control building automation
  • Measure, verify, and report on energy and water consumption and savings using techniques including engineering models, estimation, and weather correction

Qualifications We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other relevant field, plus eight or more years of experience related to energy engineering or building performance data management; or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience
  • Experience with common office software, such as Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
  • Experience with spreadsheets and data manipulation (e.g., writing programs in Visual Basic for Applications, creating pivot tables, etc.)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification
  • Additional certifications related to building controls, building energy assessment, or buildings energy management
  • A Professional Engineering License
  • Experience with SkySpark Analytics
  • Experience with Energy Star Portfolio Manager
  • Experience with monitoring and verification
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE 90.1, ASHRAE 62, and ASHRAE 55 Standards
  • Experience with estimating energy savings and using Building Energy Models (BEM)

The CA Net Zero Department was created and is growing to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions, net zero energy consumption, increased resilience of utilities to meet mission deliverables, and adoption of new technologies at Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, California. The department reports to the Director of California Site Operations to meet Division and Corporate net zero goals. Department personnel work closely with the Facilities Management Group to achieve net zero operational goals for Scopes 1 and 2 emissions and the entire site to minimize value chain Scope 3 emissions.
