Job Detail:

Looking for an experienced Software Engineer with significant data engineering experience to join our team. This position will report to the Process Controls & Automation Engineering (PC&AE) Organization and will be assigned to the Savannah River Plutonium Processing Facility (SRPPF) Project. You will be part of a team responsible to plan, design, procure, implement, install, startup, and maintain a Manufacturing Execution System to support data collection and transformation for product quality analysis in a unique and data centric manufacturing facility.

The successful candidate will spend the first two years on assignment at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in New Mexico supporting NNSA R&D and manufacturing facilities as part of a Knowledge Transfer team. This Knowledge Transfer team will remain closely coupled with SRPPF IT/OT staff while supporting initiatives common to LANL and SRPPF. After two years the candidate will return to SRS full time to apply the knowledge gained to the design, construction, startup, and operation of Savannah River Plutonium Processing Facility. Financial incentives are available for completing the first two years at LANL, as well as the following two years at SRS. Cost of living support for initial two years at LANL is also available.

This position requires a motivated and detail-oriented individual who is interested in the opportunities and challenges associated with a multi-billion-dollar project. The successful candidate will have strong analytical skills, experience with several programming languages, and the ability to work with a team of software developers and Subject Matter Experts.

Responsibilities for this position include:
Design and build algorithms and prototypes. Develop analytical tools and programs. Analyze and organize raw data. Interpret trends and patterns. Identify and build data systems and pipelines. Evaluate business and manufacturing needs and objectives. Conduct complex analyses, document, and report results. Prepare data for prescriptive and predictive modeling. Combine data from different resources into actionable information. Evaluate ways to enhance data quality and reliability. Identify opportunities for data acquisition. Prepare quality assurance and design documentation. Provide direction both inside and outside department lines on programs seeking new approaches to problems and new application of existing engineering or scientific principles. Identify and recommend improvements where established technology components and methodology are inadequate for solution. Evaluate program results, prepare reports and recommendations based on these evaluations. Communicate objectives and results to internal and external customers, colleagues, and management. Operate in a highly regulated environment to meet technical requirements for special materials and processes. Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts, Systems Engineers, and MES architects to develop functional requirements and design for data systems. Mentor and provide quality guidance to less experienced professionals on related tasks.

Basic Education Qualifications

Bachelor degree in applicable science or engineering discipline

Other Required Qualifications

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Q Level security clearance.

Must be able to work at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in New Mexico for the first two years.

Experience as a data engineer, data analyst, or similar role.

Experience with programming languages such as R, Python, and Java.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Degrees/Disciplines: Data Analytics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or Industrial Process Engineering

Technical expertise with data models, data mining, and segmentation techniques.

Hands-on experience with SQL database design.

Strong numerical and analytical skills.

Data engineering certification.

Knowledge of Data Warehouse and Data Lake architectures.

Project experience including commissioning and startup.

Experience with developing scope, schedule, and cost estimates.

Familiarity with petrochemical, pharmaceutical, or manufacturing data mining.
