Where you fit in
The Data Science team in Shell Internal Audit and Investigations is benchmarked by Gartner and Deloitte as top quartile and ahead of many other comparable Internal Audit Functions. The team supports up to 100+ audits and investigations across all Businesses and Functions on a yearly basis and has unrestricted access to data and IT systems which puts the team in a unique position to run analytics and insights across a multitude of different datasets. Continuously improving our data science capability is essential to deliver on our purpose and close the gap to full potential.
In this context, Data Scientist will provide support in (1) the effective use of data analysis and visualisation to provide insights in support of internal audits and investigations, (2) support the continuous improvement journey and embedding of our Data Analytics capability within Shell Internal Audit and Investigations ways of working, and (3) support the development of Data Analytics applications with a focus on integrated risk management and controls assurance that support both continuous and periodic verification of control framework health and operating effectiveness.
What’s the role?
As Data Scientist (Internal Audit & Investigations), you will be part of Shell Internal Audit and Investigations which purpose is to deliver Independent, Courageous and Actionable insights that assures Royal Dutch Shell (RDS) sustainably delivers the World Class Investment Case, upholds a strong Societal License to Operate and Thrives in the Energy Transition.
Furthermore, your responsibilities include the following:
- Support the Data Analytics Manager to manage our internal DA environment e.g., data integrity (incl interfaces), team access to data and systems incl monitoring of the access renewal process
- Support the preparation and delivery of the LT Management Information and make it readily available on a regular basis in an easy-to-read format
- Support the Audit & Investigations Managers and their teams to unlock the value of analytics (e.g. via use cases) across the full cycle of audits and investigations
- Supporting engagement teams and investigators with the development, execution and review of controls testing using different Data Analytical tools and techniques, including visualizations.
- Participate in one audit or investigation (with strong data analytical requirements) per year to provide independent assessments of controls.
- Build strong relationships of integrity and trust with (internal and external) stakeholders to support our data access and analytical capability to meet current and future requirements.
- Adhering to Shell Internal Audit methodology, professional audit and investigation standards, the principles behind the Agile Manifesto and our best practice ‘standards’ for data analytics.
- Being inspired and visible in delivery of the Shell Internal Audit and Investigation purpose.
- Role modeling what we expect and inspect in others.
What we need from you
We’re keen to hear from Data Science professionals who have worked with the areas of internal controls, risk assessment, governance, and business control frameworks.
Beyond that, we’d hope to see as many of the following as possible in your CV.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering specialized in Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning.
- 5-7 years of experience in data analysis/visualization.
- Proven hands-on experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Spotfire, Business Objects, Lumira etc.).
- Good understanding and adherence to relevant IT and Data regulation / policies (e.g., IT security controls, Data Privacy, Information Classification etc.)
- Strong IT skills in SAP and database management e.g., Oracle / SQL.
- Inquisitive with a questioning and challenging mindset.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in complex problem solving.
- Known and recognized for high standards of personal integrity.
- Professional, self-motivated, and reliable – proven track record of delivery and quality work.
- Good communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills – ability to pull together a coherent story based on facts and insights.
- Good knowledge and understanding of Shell risk management and control framework.
