The Job
Responsibilities
Managerial:
- Manage a team of ~6-8 data scientists
- Ensure timely and quality delivery of projects
- Plan, schedule and manage the Data Science initiatives
- As part of the data management team, assist in quarterly goal and OKR setting
- Recruit and develop new talent
- Coach and develop existing talent
- Develop and implement standards for data science code, models, experiments & documentation
- Foster a culture of learning, experimentation and delivering impact
Technical:
- Familiar with ML Lifecycle and hands-on experience managing ML in production environments.
- Highly critical of assumptions and solutions, apply scrutiny to every part of the ML lifecycle to ensure high quality solutions.
- Provide Quality assurance and control of all Data Science research plans, methodologies and implementation of deliverables. Review and code-review the team’s work.
- Lead research of new methods, technologies and opportunities
- Develop prototypes, blueprints, standards for the team
Business:
- Promote Data Science at the firm, internally and externally
- Participate in cross-functional management activities
- Develop and share knowledge across the company
- Identify opportunities for improved decision making or business process optimization.
Ideal Candidate
Key Competencies:
- You possess a Bachelor or Masters degree in Statistics, (Applied) Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or similar advanced degree is preferred.
- You have at least 4 years’ experience in applied Data Science, Quantitative Analysis, Statistical Analysis, Modelling
- You also have at least 2 years’ experience managing teams with more than 4 team members.
- You are comfortable in writing advanced SQL (Joins, Partition/Window functions, CTEs, sub-queries)
- Fluency in Python and the core Python data stack (Pandas, Numpy, Scikit-Learn, SciPy, Matplotlib) is a must.
- You can develop high quality ML solutions independently
- You have deep understanding of Data Science fundamentals and workflow e.g. algorithms, data structures, model selection and evaluation, model performance metrics, ensembling, and common pitfalls of machine learning.
- Excellent communication skills in English is a must.
- You are highly curious, critical and motivated.
