Responsibilities:
JOB SUMMARY
- A Tech Ops Big Data Analyst in Southwest Airlines’ Tech Ops Department serves as an internal consultant, responsible for the application of data and computer science concepts to design, create, implement, and support integrated data solutions in self-service environments across Tech Ops that can support the lifecycle of data management and analysis, including acquiring, storing, accessing, analyzing, and visualizing large, heterogeneous and real-time data associated with diverse real-world business opportunities.
RESPONSIBILITIES

- Drives moderately complex self-service data integration projects that bring together data from
- disparate sources in order to make it available to business Customers such as data scientists, analysts,
- and analytic users
- Applies advanced data integration methods to massive data sets in order to create solutions which
- can be utilized in descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics
- Interacts with functional leaders across multiple and concurrent projects
- Formulates and communicates solutions and options for moderately complex problems
- Supports the ongoing effectiveness of data assets in use by business Customers in self-service
- environments
- Supports the ongoing development of the Southwest Airlines Tech Ops Analytics Community

Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Data Engineering and Computer Science Skills
- Must be proficient in acquiring data in both relational and noSQL databases
- Must be proficient in integrating, storing, and processing data in a self-service environment
- Must have experience in data programing languages and open source tools
- Must have experience with technology platforms and architectures applicable to developing and maintaining self-service data assets
- Must have experience with business intelligence tools such as Business Objects, Tableau, QlikView, Alteryx, or other AWS tools

Advanced Analytic Skills
- Must be comfortable with both inductive and deductive reasoning and problem solving approaches
- Must have exposure to data analytics methodologies and tools
- Must be familiar with test and control methodologies and experimental design

Consulting and communications
- Must be proficient in problem solving, critical thinking, and project management skills
- Must be proficient in driving moderately complex data integration projects including participating in business stakeholder meetings, solution definition and planning, detailed task and deliverable definition and creation, and project schedule creation
- Must be proficient in developing plans for data integration projects
- Must be proficient in building trust with all levels of Employees up to and including functional leaders, including ability to properly manage highly sensitive and confidential information
- Must be proficient in communicating in an engaging way with strong verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences up to and including functional leaders
- Must demonstrate the ability to adjust well to a variety of situations and change approaches/methodology if necessary in order to effectively and successfully meet objectives
- Must demonstrate a willingness to adapt to new approaches and methodologies prescribed by leadership/management

EDUCATION
- Required: High School Diploma
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree with preferred concentration in Analytics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or Science
EXPERIENCE
- Required: Minimum 5 years of advanced data integration experience
- Preferred: Minimum 1-2 years of database platform development experience
- Preferred: Minimum 2 years of visualization and presentation experience
- Preferred: Minimum 2 years of Technical Operations experience

PHYSICAL ABILITIES
- Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
- Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
- Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
- Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
- Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
- Must be able to travel up to 15% of the time, as determined by leader and project needs
- Must be able to work extended hours, as determined by leader and project needs
