The Role: Data Associate, Global Data Management Team

The Team:
The Global Data Management (GDM) team within the Index Management & Production Group (IMPG)

The Impact:
IMPG has intensive operational processes to manage and validate both internal and external market data, allowing analysts to act on those events in a timely and informed manner. Accuracy and timing are two keys to the success of daily data management and index

The GDM Data Associate is responsible for the acquisition, management and quality of a variety of data items used for the production and maintenance of S&P Dow Jones-branded indices.

The successful candidate would be expected to carry out tasks associated with the management of data used for the production, maintenance and construction of indices, especially w.r.t. history

Additionally, the Data Associate is responsible for a wide range of data points across global markets and is responsible for ensuring quality, accuracy and timely delivery of these data points to internal stakeholders and external clients.

What’s in it for you:
The Data Associate role is a part of the GDM team, which is central to SPDJI’s overall vision and mission to onboard and manage all kinds of data requirements for the development and maintenance of S&P Dow Jones branded indices. The group works closely with other departmental groups (Index Managers, Market Managers, Index Calculation & Distribution, Data Operations and Solutions) and across the firm (Technology, Product Management, Research & Development, etc) to implement the IMPG agenda and benefit from the substantial resources and expertise available within the SPDJI organization.

As a Data Associate, you will work collaboratively with a wide range of data points, data histories, indices and other products across global markets. You must be able to analyze and implement complex data processes and calculation methodology and resolve issues that may arise.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate would be a member of the GDM team based in Mumbai and will help capture, quality screen and present data sets in time for their delivery to end clients for use in the further calculation or rebalancing of indices or for new index development;

Develop a detailed understanding of the way each data set is used in the production and maintenance of S&P Dow Jones Indices;

Calculation and maintenance of all underlying data (including but not limited to Company Fundamentals/ESG data) used for S&P and Dow Jones branded indices, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of index data to clients and end users;

Building data histories for all newly on boarded datasets, including but not limited to Company Fundamentals/ESG, and performing necessary due diligence to make sure the data is fit for use for construction and maintenance of all SPDJI branded indices ;

Work with a global team of Index Managers, Research & Development teams, IT specialists, Vendors, etc to support ongoing index maintenance and new index development;

Conduct an efficient data quality assurance (QA) process including assessing results, compiling and reporting QA findings;

Provide support in implementation, testing, and documentation of new models;

Contribute to process improvements to ensure consistent data quality and efficiency;

Liaise with CXT teams to address all GDM related client queries in a time bound and efficient manner and as per pre-defined SLA’s;

Liaise with data vendors (S&P Market Intelligence and Sustainable1 in particular) to understand data structure and definitions, incorporating this knowledge into our data management processes

Producing documentation and specifications for the logic used in rules and intermediate storage solutions, working with technology teams to ensure all requirements are clear and ready to be migrated to permanent IT solutions, where appropriate, collaborate with business analysts (DOS) on user testing, documenting results as appropriate.

What We’re Looking For:Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree

A demonstrable understanding of global financial markets

Self-starter with good problem-solving skills

Good time management skills. Must be able to work independently on multiple projects with minimal direction or supervision.

Must be able to demonstrate excellent analytical and quantitative capabilities to solve original, non-routine problems in a timely and insightful manner

Proficient in Excel, Power Point and other MS Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in business, finance or any other equivalent discipline would be preferred

Minimum of 3 years of professional experience handling financial data, including but not limited to Company Fundamentals and/or ESG

Experience with building data histories, resolving inconsistencies/anomalies w.r.t. historical data/mapping, engaging with vendors to resolve potential data issues/conflicts, building consensus with stakeholders and driving resolutions and managing client expectations in case of conflicting priorities

Ability to work in a team environment.

Demonstrate ownership

Good communication skills

Experience dealing with customers in a time-sensitive demanding environment where interpretation of data has both objective and subjective components requiring persuasion and influencing skills.

Knowledge of vendor terminals and vendor data and analytical platforms.

Proficiency in SQL/Python programming languages are a plus.
