The Role
Spur Reply (Formerly The Spur Group) is looking for a Data Engineer to join our Modern Apps & Experiences team. As a Data Engineer you will develop, enhance, and sustain innovative solutions to improve the customer experience. The ideal candidate will apply modern engineering and analytical methods to deliver customer-focused value.
What You’ll Do
- You will independently implement new features in a highly collaborative work environment alongside product managers and fellow engineers
- You have extensive experience with AWS Services leveraging SQL, NoSQL platforms to efficiently store time series (temporal) data solutions
- You will help unify and drive ETL consistency across disparate systems and data sources
- You are proficient in Big Data technologies such as AWS Glue, Spark, Athena or related Elastic Map Reduce (EMR) solutions
- You will collaborate with business partners and internal customers
- Own end-to-end operations of resilient and observable ETL workflows
- You will share technical solutions and product ideas through team planning, design review, and technical discussions
- Build large-scale distributed data processing systems, data lakes, lake shore apps
- You will take on projects and make software enhancements that improve team software and processes, including design and documentation
Who You Are (What You’d Bring To Spur)
- While you are an agent of change with a sense of urgency, you are respectful of what came before
- Experience with python and typescript
- Specific experience with AWS Step Functions, Athena, Glue, and Lake formation
- Proven experience in building and deploying complex ETL pipelines
- Experience with other modern programming languages like Java, C++, and C# is a plus
- Strong object oriented or functional design skills with understanding of common design patterns is a plus
Requirements
- 5 + years of industry experience in software development or data engineering
- Computer Science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and complexity analysis
- Excellent knowledge of software engineering best practices ( e.g. Agile software development, test-driven development, unit testing, code reviews, design documentation, etc )
- Willingness and ability to own all stages of the development process: design, testing, implementation, operational support
- Strong communication skills, ability to establish and maintain a close working relationship with distributed team members and business partners

Most of our clients are based in the greater Seattle and Bellevue area; it is therefore expected for all employees to adhere to core work hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST, Monday through Friday, regardless of the time zones in which they reside. From time-to-time client work may extend beyond these hours and may require some flexibility in work arrangements.
