Purpose of Position
Provide requesters such as the Governor’s office, the Legislative Finance Committee (LFC), the media, law enforcement agencies and NM State Police/DPS leadership or other with statistical, investigative, or analytical projects as requested by conducting data needs assessments to attain actionable mission-driven results.

How does it get done?
Handling requests for research, statistical analysis and the development of criminal intelligence by gathering information, assessing it for reliability and validity, analyzing and making forecasts, or recommending prevention strategies based on the information. Tasks are accomplished utilizing a variety of standard analysis tools such as Excel, Access, SQL, Power BI, R and ArcGIS and/or other programming tools such as SAS or Python as needed ensuring consistency and integrity of data. Accessing NMSP/DPS and other external database sources and collecting, organizing, interpreting and summarizing data to create an analytical product for project completion/presentation. The analysis may include descriptive analytics: summarizing and describing the data to better understand what has happened or what is currently happening; diagnostic analytics: focusing on past performance to determine what happened and why; prescriptive analytics: finding the best course of action based on the data analysis; and predictive analytics: predicting possible outcomes using statistical models and machine learning techniques.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience, knowledge, skills and abilities in the following areas: Utilizing a variety of standard analysis tools such as Excel, Access, SQL, Power BI, R and ArcGIS and/or programming tools such as SAS or Python, effective communications skills (orally and in writing), organizational skills, critical and analytical thinking, criminal justice field experience and customer service experience.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or other related field with four (4) years of experience directly related to position at time of posting. Or related professional certification as determined by the hiring agency. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Employment Requirements
The selected candidate will be subject to a national fingerprint based criminal record check, within 30 days of assignment. Continued employment is contingent upon remaining felony free, per Section 5.12.1.1 of the Criminal Justice Information Systems Security Policy. Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a defensive driving course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive the defensive driving certification within six months of hire.
Working Conditions
State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated August 12, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (“CMS”), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending, lifting and reaching may be required. Ability to complete assignments with a high level of accuracy within strict time constraints. Frequent use of office machine and equipment. Experience using Microsoft Office applications are also required. Occasional travel may be required.
