This summer internship will offer college and university students an amazing opportunity to gain hands on experience within the pharmaceutical industry. This program allows students to work closely with business leaders while obtaining industry insight. Interns will be tasked with both individual and group projects. The Sunovion Internship Program will offer additional workshops and seminars for your career and professional development. We are seeking talented individuals within multiple areas across the organization.
Specific Internship Description:
This internship will be designed with the business need and candidate interest in mind but could include any of the following:
- Work with other data scientists and interns to implement the prototype audio analysis pipline on aws using AWS lambda and Step Functions. The pipeline may include but not limited to the quality control of the audio files, speaker diarization, speaker identification, acoustic feature extraction etc. and may need to enhance the existing models.
- Tune the speaker diarization model to enhance the diarization performance and improve the rater vs patient classification model for audio recordings from clinical interviews for clinical studies.
- Extract the selected raw acoustic features from the patients’ and raters’ speech to model the distributions of selected acoustic features and benchmark against other clinical measures.
- Gain insights into how innovative data science technologies (e.g., machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing) can be applied to large integrated clinical trial data.
Learning Goals:
- Gain insights into functioning of a clinical development department at mid-size pharmaceutical organization
- Learn about clinical trials and gain insights into how data science can be applied in clinical development.
- Opportunities to develop new methodologies or solutions to generate insights and improve business processes.
- Learn from access to various AWS services, SAS, R, Python, and various CONDA environments with deep learning frameworks such as TF, PyTorch, MXNet, Chainer, and BI solution like Spotfire.
- Gain understanding of working in a cross functional, matrixed, and partnered organization.
- Develop soft skills like communication (oral and written) and presentation skills.
- Develop time management, project management skills and the ability to be responsible for multiple priorities.
Minimum Requirements:
- Enrolled in Postgraduate/PhD degree program in Data Science, Computer Science or related.
- Must have completed their sophomore year of study.
- Authorization to work in the U.S. without requiring sponsorship.
- Must be familiar with AWS services especially Lambda, Step Function, and DynamoDB.
- Prior experience developing or tuning speaker diarization and speaker identification models is desirable.
- Experience using AWS services such as Sagemaker (python or R), S3, RDS. Knowledge of Docker is helpful.
- Strong communication skills and passion for continued development.
Program Details:
- Position will begin on Monday June 5, 2022
- Position is located remotely in the US
- Position is full-time Monday through Friday – up to 40 hours per week
- Candidates should be available to commit to 10 weeks
- Pay rate: $33/hour for Masters program and $43/hour for PhD.
